Munching on my shredded wheat breakfast I wondered ... does anyone know what the French/German/British pilots used to eat for theirs?

Good question Gary.
As a guess Eggs & Bacon or crumpets for the Brits, Croissants (spelling?) for the French & Bratwurst for the Jolly old Hun!
Weißwurst for my Bavarian comrades!
A pound of delicious Bacon and a cold one. Breakfast of Champions!!
Do you mean the pilots or the front-line soldiers? Officers or enlisted men? Time period? In 1918 the food situation in Germany was pretty bad.
So how many books are in your personal library?
Pilots not the great unwashed!
I suspect what ever the mess captain can get. Certainly better than the PBI in the trenches!

This has been my daily breakfast for many years. Usually bacon stripes are used (above you see genuine Turkish beef sausages, as an exception, supplied by my Turkish friend from Germany).
Sat and Sundays are different, but Mon-Fri are just like this. No bread, but chili and parsley is used widely. Green tea in litres.
Being 51 I am enjoying perfect health and great shape IMHO.
Highly recommended, extreme protein-fat diet.

Probably neat whisky, brandy or schnapps.
