Thats a great looking plane! Kudos on the rigging, too!
I know what you mean about the loose rigging, because mine is in an 'as-is' condition.
You sweetened this one up nicely Rob, and painted the struts!
What did you fill the hole with on the upper wing? I haven't done mine yet.
That looks fantastic Rob, nice photos. I'm going to have to get some of these little beauties. One as a Macchi L1 and one for my Pola flying boats.
That is one great Christmas tree ornament! Excellent job on detailing it.
My Macchi L1, a reverse engineered Lhoner L. This Christmas decoration didn't get put away on the 12th night. I can see if the bad luck superstition is true.

Wow, your plane is rigged, looks real good, what material is the rigging ?
The rigging is thin wire wrapped around the struts. When it arrives the wire is very slack. like Rob I tightened it up, I just pushed a cocktail stick at the top and bottom and its much better. I found Vallejo ivory was a perfect match for the wings and filled the top wing hole with greenstuff.
Ian
A very neat little repaint there Brian.
It is incredible what a vast variety of aircraft we are producing with a little injenuity.
Rob.
Like those, can someone post the link to the shop again please
WOW those are awesome paint you all did.
There you go Chris.

Rob.
What are the exact scale on the Lohner and the others?
The Lohner model is 7.4cm long, correct 1:144 scale is 7.125 cm so its close, the wings on the model are 9cm across when they should be 11.2 cm wide. The wings are a bit small but still bigger than most minis so they fit in fine on a games table. I think the other decorations for sale aren't close to 1:144 at all.
Ian
Beautiful repaints!
I'm amazed!
Yes indeed, another smashing repaint.
Rob.

Here is my other Lohner; this is Gottfried v. Banfield's L-16. It is a Saro model that I repainted, mostly to change the hull (which Saro decided to do in red and white, though I have not seen any evidence of such a paint job). I also tried to make the tail look more like it does in real life.
By comparison, here is the unmodified tail. If you look very closely, in the original Sora model the tail is afixed to the rump by a white plastic rectangle; in actuality, the tail was held on by what I believe to be steel tubing. If you compare the two models, you can see that in the L. 16 model I drilled out the white plastic square and painted it black.
What a great pair of planes, Anthony.
This thread is whetting my appetite for these planes. Great work, everyone.
Amazing as usual, Dave.
REP!
Very pretty, Dave - one of my all-time favorite planes!
As always, thanks for the inspiration...
All the best,
Matt
A quick question for all of you with a Lohner L in your hangar... which flying stand (and firing arc) would you consider to be most appropriate? I've got the kite ready to go... but need to do some shopping at Aerodrome Accessories before I can get it off the ground.
Thanks, in advance.
Here's my clutch of SORA Lohner's picked up over Christmas '20
Each had a bit of a hull repaint - old GW colours mostly
Airfix 65 aircraft blue on hull lower
Some had more than others.. Thanks to Ian (Womble) for the inspiration.

Looking good, Dave
Nice looking planes! I had to order a couple myself. I hope mine come out half as good.
that is some really nice work... the lines are so crisp and the little details are popping. Well done, Flash.
Lohner Type M Trieste Naval Air Station Leutnant Zur See Walter Zelezny
Sora Christmas Decoration
Wings - Foundry Boneyard 9c
Upper hull red wing patches and rudder/tail markings - Vallejo Vermillion 70.909
Lower hull and floats - Foundry British Blue Grey 75c
Engine and machinegun - Foundry Equipment Black 101a drybrushed GW Leadbelcher
Engine frame and struts - GW Leadbelcher
Decals - Mark 1. Serial number added by gel pen.
Zelezny was the first pilot to sink a submarine. Given that this is a christmas tree decoration it comes remarkably well crafted and reasonably well proportioned. I removed the bracing wires (because they were too slack) and remodelled the rudder. The colours were based on a mix of museum pieces and artwork (hence keeping the red uppersides but adding the grey lower hull). I replaced the upper wing decals and added decals to the lower wings (although not the underside of the upper wings as shown in the museum photo (too fiddly). I have another to do which will be painted in Banfields colours.

Nice, I have some to paint up too. Dave at Fight club is to blame! Was going to do two Austro-Hungarian, leave one as is and do Banfield L.16 and convert two to Italian Macchi L.1’s
Looks great, Gary!

You all in the UK seem to have better Christmas decorations than here in the US.
Those look awesome!
That's great work on the Lohner. That model is the next on my list to do.
Good work Gary & Chris
I take no responsibility for purchases after Flight Club but happy it inspired others as I was inspired by those that went first.

Wing and tail colours - Vallejo Scarlet 70.817 and White 70.951
Engine casing, struts, machinegun - Foundry Equipment Black 101a drybrushed GW Leadbelcher

This is the last of my Lohner flying boats but will be adding to the Austro-Hungarian Naval Air Service with a couple of fighters in due course.
Looks great, Gary!
Good stuff, just waiting on some decals and will put mine up. Changed plan from Banfield though.
First Lohner Tl ( redesignated Lohner L.1 for navy service) - serial Nr. L131 flown by Fregattenleutnant Friedrich Lang and observer/gunner Einjahrig-Freiwilliger Stabsmachinenwarter Franz Kohlhauser.
They attacked a formation of six Italian Farman MF.11 biplanes which had taken off from Piskupi, Albania to bomb their Naval air base at Durrazzo (today - Durres, Albania). They engaged the whole formation taking down two of the planes for confirmed kills and limped back to base. Lang survived the war ending with 5 kills.
Sora Christmas decoration
GW Mountfang brown fuselage, floats and hull
GW Leadbelcher struts and rudder supports
Various decals
I drilled and glued 4mm round Perspex rod for the connector which fits tightly in Bomber flight stands. The bases are 70mmx70mm plastics shims with 4 mm hole drilled centrally, water detail glued using photo paper.
