    Default Dogfight Board Game

Has anyone used their Planes to play other games?

I modified 4 pegs to attach to the plane stand for my
DogFight board game from my childhood. I would have
Been in heaven if I would have had these planes back

Yes it was where I got my Wings at a ripe old age of 7. Lol
I’ve played this game with my Brother, my Son and Grandsons. Yet I think it’s in great shape.

Chris, it’s actually a good game. It’s quicker than WoG but easy enough for kids and adults to play. You can
Still pick up a used copy on eBay. Lol

Sadly I sold off all of my MB American Heritage games a long time ago. I fondly remember Dogfight. I played the Civil War the most but liked Dogfight the best.

I had "Broadsides" and my friend had "Dogfight." Both fun games but we liked Dogfight the best. When playing WOG I with my kids I've often thought about adding a home rule that when you shoot down an enemy plane you become an "Ace" and receive 2 additional "damage resistance." With my fading memory of Dogfight it seems as though you could become an Ace in that game.

If you wish to introduce a 'house rule' when playing at home with your children, there is nothing to stop you, John.

I still have Dogfight, Broadsides, and Richtofen's War in the closet upstairs....now that I have time on my hands (and lots of it) I may have to attempt to excavate them and teach my family how to play!

PS -- I also have Screaming Eagles there too -- simple jet fighter game -- watch out for those missiles!

As I recall you could not only become an Ace but also a Double Ace...eludes me as to what or why...but it was sure a lot of fun.
I also have my original, had hand painted them years/decades ago to match pilots from Enemy Ace (DC Comics). That's back when hands and eyes were more cooperative than nowadays.
Later picked up two copies from vendors at ORIGINS, one almost pristine, the other for parts replacements for my original.

just thought, in addition to MB Dogfight, Broadsides, and Civil War there was also a WW2 game called Hit The Beach...island invasion and defense in the Pacific Theatre.

I had both and played them equally as a kid with my Brother.
I still play them to this day with my grandchildren.

Yes when you shoot down 1 plane you become an ace. 2 planes your a double ace. My brother and I didn’t limit the number of times
You could be an ace at 2. But did stop the number of cards at 8. You have a good memory

That’s the Idea I had when I started this post to inspire others to revisit their childhood and maybe share it with family and friends.
I think that’s awesome you have kept all of them games and now can teach your family the joy and fun you had as a child.

Thomas you are correct about the double Ace. The reason was you start out with 4 action cards. When you became an Ace you would get to draw 6 action cards and a double Ace drew 8 action cards. Good times.

Probably only cost a dollar back then because they were printed on parchment paper..........

Really; I remember AH games were on high quality heavy boards. They could do that because they bought a printing shop, and had them done at cost, instead of through a printer, like SPI et al had to.

I bought plenty of SPI and AH games way back then too....the parchment paper reference was just a joke about how long ago it seems I bought these games.....(I think we kept score with quill pens... )

    Monarch Printing.

I remember the 1st AH game I bought as a kid for $2.99, Waterloo. I was tortured over which one to buy as I only had the $ for one game.

. . . thinking about up-dating my second game with bombers and escorts, 3 Nieuports 17's and Ca3's on one side and 3 Triplanes and 3 Gothas on the other. Should be fun and fast!

The thing that irked me about the early AH games (like Afrika Corps) was their use of pink and baby blue for the counters ...

Interestingly the only one I ever brought was Gettysburg because of my interest in the ACW & used to play it with my daughters.
Only really got into Wargaming via 40K to play with my grandsons & as they say "The rest is History" when I discovered Wings of War over 10 years ago.

Yeah, it was funny how every game had those color counters. Afrika Korp, Stalingrad, D-Day, Waterloo, Battle of the Bulge all had them.

Another set of long out of print games I have that were really a lot of fun to play were the Oldenburg Grenadiers games published 45 or so years ago. The series consisted of four games: Saratoga, Brandywine, Camden, S.C., and the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. Although a board game they really had the feel of a table top war game.

Yeah, I paid with 4 sea shells, 2 arrow heads and a 1/2 bushel of corn, about $2.99 at the time.

Thanks for posting these pictures. I love seeing your WOG planes on modified stands to be used in a game of Dogfight! I had Dogfight, Battle-Cry, and Broadsides when I was a kid, but Dogfight was definitely our favorite game. It is the only one of those three that I kept. After I discovered WOG a few years ago, I knew it was a game my grandkids would enjoy too. I initially dug out my old Dogfight Game, and had them play it first to gauge their interest. They had fun playing Dogfight, so I broke out a WOG mat, and planes, and had them play their first game of WOG. They all absolutely loved it. It is now the first thing they want to do when they visit. I have since introduced them to the King Kong variant. My youngest grandson occasionally enjoys playing King Kong himself. They all love shooting down each other. They want to incorporate bombers next. Who Knew how much fun sibling rivalry could be?!

Thank you Paul, I couldn’t begin to tell you how many games of Dogfight my brother and I played.
Nor how many my Son and I played. I’ve only recently introduced it to my grandkids and am looking forward to introducing them to WoG. It’s fun to watch their little minds work and the expressions they make during the game. It’s fun and teaches critical thinking at the same time.

Very cool. I remember Broadsides, but I don't know if I ever played this.

My first wargame was Richthofen's War. It was sometime around '75. My neighbor, who was like an older brother, taught me. It seems like yesterday sitting at his kitchen table.

Oh, and in response to Sam's original question, yes, I do use my WOG and other third party minis in a number of other games. They are mainly used as 3D visual aids or props in some games. I use them when I play B-17: Queen of the Skies, Aces of Valor, Marine Fighter Squadron, A Wing and a Prayer, Corsair Leader..... For me personally, they add additional depth to my gaming experience.

You got a better deal than I did -- I had to trade 3 beaver pelts for the game!

Another one of those early fun board games to teach the family (that I have up there in storage somewhere) is Lionheart -- lots of fun and easy to teach!

I had Dog Fight as well. It started me down the path of aerial combat games. Luftwaffe, Richtofen’s War, Foxbat and Phantom, and others. All gone. I wouldn’t make that mistake again!
