Still have all my SYSTEM 7 counters. Haven't played in some time. I might have to dig them out for a game with a friend.

Do I count nine Zeppelin 'blanks' drying in the Arizona heat?!?! Looks pretty exciting...
All the best,

Quick fix for potential base issues with tripods - yesterday in game play, there was some confusion on what tripod base sides were shielded and what weren't. It seems that the trimming of the decal sticker applied to the base leaves something to be desired, occasionally...SO...I painted the base sides that are shielded an 'orange' to match the color on the base so there would be no doubt...
Easy fix, and I will do so to the other tripods' bases this week. There should be no question now as to where shields are and where they aren't!
All the best,
Matt
Good point, Harry. I must check the bases of my tripods.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Earlier this month at Gritty Goblin Games, "Todd, what airplane uses a G deck?" Discussion about airplanes and how the Halberstadt D.II went from a G to a P.
"Why do you ask, anyway?" asks Todd.
"I have a card for a Hansa-Brandenburg W.13 which uses a G* deck. I know the * means no Immelmann turn, but I don't have any G cards."
"Bring the model and I'll provide the maneuver cards," says Todd.
"I only have the airplane card. I don't have the model although it is available on Shapeways."
"Order from Shapeways, paint it, and decal it and we'll fly it next month," says Todd.
No pressure.
So I order the model from Shapeways. They say deliver by Sept 26. Not much time to paint, but I'll give it a go. Always Shapeways is off (late) on the delivery date estimates. I decided to order custom bases from Keith for the Hansa-Brandenburg W.13, my earlier purchase of the Gotha WD-11 torpedo airplane, and see if Keith can make custom bases for my 1/600 110 foot subchasers. The bases arrived first so I used a masking tape and spray paint to get all the lettering and firing arcs done just like on the cards. The airplane is a Gotha WD-11 that I started painting the struts on (what a pain that is). The infamous card which started this is in the lower left.
I cannot decide if I want to glue the subchaser model to the base or leave it loose.
I received an email from Shapeways saying my order had shipped and expected delivery was Sept 17. I know they were off. However, the package arrived on the 16th. Today I spray painted the models with gray surface primer. Tomorrow will start serious painting. Decals are problematic. I don't have the correct crosses for the wings, but get do the hull crosses and probably the hull number. We have upper left Gotha WD-11 torpedo plane, lower left Hansa Brandenburg W.13, upper right Tellier T.3, and bottom right Macchi M.5 for size comparison.
Still, no pressure.
So how many books are in your personal library?
Having read Cecil Lewis's memoir a while back, I feel it is now incumbent upon me to repaint an SE5a... along with a few more HD planes...
Beautiful work all around here, Paul I'm liking those Naps a lot, too!
All the best,
Matt
Those look great, Ken.
September has been a busy month so far:
Half a dozen FW190 Doras
8 Ta 152s
A couple of Condors
4 Ju52s
and a He177 (the one at the back I did a couple of years ago)
All planes from AIM, decals from Miscmini, Shed and Mehusla 1/144 Direct, custom stands from Keith.

A nice lot of Luftwaffe love there, Steve.

Very nice toy soldiers, Florian. Great paintjob. I do not know that game system, however.
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
Gorgeous work, Steve - they and your Swiss repaints will look stunning on the game mat!
Florian, I echo Andy's thoughts about your Wurttembergers - beautful stuff, indeed!
Thanks for the inspiration, folks - lots of good stuff here lately
All the best,
Matt
'mazing stuff there Steve!
I love the Ju52s particularly (and the Condors!).

Florian, I'm not a Napoleonic player myself, but I can still appreciate a great paint job!
I laugh in the face of danger - then I hide until it goes away!
Thanks! Unfortunately the photos are very blurry - I will make new ones in the daylight, soon. The game is called "Song of Drums and Shakos" by Ganesha Games. It's in the skirmish scale - 5 to 20 miniatures per side. The scenarios are about the "little war": foraging, sabotage and commando missions in the Napoleonic period beside the big battles.
The rules are fast and elegantly - there is no book keeping needed. The gaming surface is 90*90 cm for 28mm and 60*60 cm for 15mm. A game can be played within an hour.
I really like the system. It's the perfect introduction in the Napoleonic wargaming.
Napoleonic skirmish gaming is something I could really enjoy - I will have to check out the rules, Florian. Are your figures Perry Brothers products?
All the best,
Matt
No, they're made by Front Rank. I prefer them, as they can be bought separately. Perry only sells sets of miniatures. I also prefer the style of Front Rank over Perry. The Perry ones look more realistic, but I like the FR style over them.
The Song of Drums and Shakos rules are worth a try: the digital issue is only 8$.
Mr. Steve, your 190's look great!

I think it may have been, Karl... It's such a good price, I think I will snag a copy. I have also been scoping out the Front Rank lines and the Perry Brothers lines - I hear the Penisular War calling my name....
All the best,
Matt
On my Sept workbench....and for a long time to come. My West Wind / Forged in Battle Dark Age (15mm) Kickstarter order arrived today. That's a Byzantine church, a Viking long ship, dark age village, Saxon forge, Roman village, Greek temple and 4 armies of miniatures (about 1000 figures) for Carolingian Franks, Normans, Vikings and Nikephorian Byzantines (plus/minus 1000 AD):
You know I really hate that the website has soooo many special characters you can't use in a file name unless you want to get the picture and goobeldy gook stuff after the picture. Three tries in renaming files and uploading pics to get a clean version.

Lovely stuff, Ken! Those Grizzly Bears look pretty intimidating...
My efforts as the month goes on include four more TANKS! models ready for the paint shop...
I really like doing four or five of them at a time, and the fact that I am painting each for a different unit makes the potentially repetitive nature of things much less painful
Priming my new Shapeways arrivals should be part of that painting plan, too.
All the best,
Matt
Thanks for the comments guys. and Yes Jager, I am working on your stuff.
i had no worries

Finally got round to taking some pics of these two that I completed at the end of last month.. some chaps will have seen them at Colours if not before. Both are from Shapeways - forgive me but I cannot recall who the designer's are as I got them for last Christmas !
Sopwith Dolphin: N deck A guns Q1/1918
No particular squadron, painted to match in with my other one - given a red colour scheme to differentiate between them on the table.
Base colour was Humbrol 155 Olive Green, Dom's Decals used.
Pfalz Dr.1 O deck A guns Q2/1918
Now I was tempted to do my red/white/black scheme on this bad boy but decided on a more original look in the end.
Decals don't look quite right to me but from photo's I've seen they didn't paint the crosses onto the ailerons and consequently they look smaller than you think they should be. Again used Dom's decals but don't have numbers that should also be on the fuselage.
I used Revell acrylic paints - light grey with aluminium 2-1 mix; matt clear varnished after decals fixed. I was quite pleased with the outcome.

Sapiens qui vigilat... "He is wise who watches"
Lovely, clean work, Dave! Both should do well in their own rights on the table - I especially like the potential of the Dolphin in the game - we were chatting about them at our last gaming get-together.
All the best,
Matt
Thanks Matt. The Dolphin is no different to the SE5a in game, though if they produced an official one they could tweak the deck perhaps and lose some of those steeps ?

Where were those tanks 40 years ago when I was building 1/72 ESCI kits to play my game with ?
I have said that myself several times, Bob - I love that the TANKS! game is individual tanks rather than large units (like Flames of War). I can do several individual tanks but have no desire to do an entire armored division...
All the best,
Matt
Nice job Dave
Run for your life - there are stupid people everywhere!
Just waited for the end of the month to get these done. They came while was away at the Council of the 5 Nations last week. Worked on them this wee so here are the first few. Kevin (MISCMINI) had decals for these so I thought I would get planes to put them on. First up 2 Pakistani F-86's. I saw this camo scheme in a book I have so that is how I painted them. Added sharks teeth to one of them.

Bob thats a nice effect you got on the last 'brown' 21, how did you achieve that? A sponge?
John it was an old brush with stiff bristles. I have used a green scrubbing pad before with a similar effect.
Nice work, Bob. You always have interesting irregular aircraft to show us.
And, Phil, that's an amazing conversion on the Matchbox artillery piece.
