Thumbs up Guy Martin's Spitfire: A Channel 4 Documentary.

    Guy Martin's Spitfire.

At long last Channel 4 (All4) have decided to make this amazing documentary available once again. Yesterday some of us were treated to three flights of four Spitfires which headed north south and west out of Humberside International Airport / HUY. Should you have missed out on being overflown on August 13th 2015 then grab a spot of Spitfire action for yourself here.

Grimsby-born Guy Martin presents and partakes in this documentary which is all about a Supermarine Spitfire Mk I once flown by Geoffrey Stephenson. The original aircraft (P5300) was crash-landed at Dunkerque in 1940 but was excavated during 1986 with the intention of preservation to an airworthy status. Watch as in conjunction with a Specialist Organisation at Duxford Guy Martin assists in the full renovation of this Spitfire Mk I which returns her to the air. Filmed during 2012 I am sure the Specialist Organisation is the OFMC and during Guy's flight in a Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX Trainer aircraft a Messerschmitt Bf.109 comes up to join the fun ...

Huh -- I am familiar with Guy Martin, but not via aviation; I have seen him on Velocity's (and Speed Channel's before that) coverage of the Isle of Man TT motorcycle races. He's the one I described to The SO as "looking like the fourth Doctor Who went motorcycle racing". (he had a particularly unusual moment this year: The original rider for one of the TT Zero electric-powered bikes was injured on the first day; Martin was asked if he was interested, and he said "yes", even tho' he'd never actually ridden an electric bike before....)

To be honest, Guy Martin is like Marmite - you either like him or hate him. Personally, I find him an irritating twat who I could never tire of hitting in the face. Some of the prog was OK, but you still have to get past Guy Martin first to get to them.
