I don't have any fighters with me today but I'll post a comparison photo with a Zero Monday night.

    Beautiful work Peter!

Nice weathering too, or did you handle the plane too early?

Seriously though, did you paint the weathering effects on afterwards, or use a masking/salt effect?

This one I did afterwards. I painted a couple of Zeros (there is a thread in the hobby section 'HERE') where I first painted them silver. and then covered them with green. A rough scrub pad action on the green gave a nice effect but I had little control so this time I tried a different route to get the peeled/worn paint look. Not sure which I like better. Afterwards is easier as I didn't have to paint the plane twice! Maybe next time I'll
    try masking/salt technique.
The engine staining is dry brushed on.

Not my cup of tea, but the glass effect on the canopies and the weathering are top notch.

Beautiful bombers, Peter - not my cup of tea, per se, as I've no real interest in the Pacific Theater, but the Betties are gorgeous!

    All the best,
    Matt

Reflecting an old thread, but a serious enough question...

Would they come in black for night bombing missions?

    Thanks, my friend.
We'll have to do it, right?

As soon as I finish some special planes, the new WW2 diceless deck for solo play and some work at home I'll prepare the mini campaign for the Black Zeros.

Can't wait! You'll have to let me know what planes I'll need for this mini campaign. I'm working on 4 Oscars at the moment and some Dauntless Dive Bombers.

As Father Ted would say, "A very very very very dark green".
Followed by Dougal, "Yes, a very very very very VERY dark green".

Thanks guys. Now I have to paint some Zeroes in a land based color scheme to escort them. I look forward to seeing them run the gauntlet and drop their payloads on the high value targets assigned. I got much braver weathering #25 and #26. The lighting does not show the aluminum dry brushing very well. There is quite a bit more of it than you can see in the picture. A few more of these Japanese planes and I think I’ll have the weathering the way I want it. I’m trying to show the very thin paint, and it is a hard thing to do.

Make sure you post an AAR when you fly your mission. Looking forward to seeing those birds in action.

Here is a flight of AIM G4M1 Bettys.

The all green was airbrushed with Mr. Color Dark Green (Mitsubishi), C-124. Panel lines are in black, using Flory Model Wash. Weathering was done using Wilder oil paints, LS01 Black, LS04 Light Buff, and LS33 Olive Green. I was very pleased with the subtle weathering and panel lines which can’t be seen in the picture due to poor lighting, crappy camera, and an unskilled operator of said camera.

The Kumogota scheme camo were airbrushed with Mr. Color Sand Yellow, C-119 and C-124 as above. These were panel lined with Flory Models Wash, brown. Very light weathering as above.

Thanks guys. I have really been enjoying painting Japanese planes. I have about 15 or so more to go before moving back to British, Dutch and early American planes involved in the air war from the first few months of the war. The great thing about Japanese planes is there were very few standard camo patterns, so you have lots of artistic freedom. Some of their planes looked like they were painted by an artist, and some looked like they handed a four year old a can of spray paint and said "go for it sonny boy!".
