Building the Skytrex Fokker EV/D VIII.

This one, although a monoplane, was a bit of a fiddle for reasons that I will include in the build notes.

    1. As usual start by removing the flash. This was almost flash free.
    2. I next printed off and cut out my cammo decals.

    3. All holes were extended and an extra set drilled out for tail struts which were not supplied in the original kit.

I bent a wire paper clip to make these. Also as one of the top wing strut holes was out of alignment I drilled a new hole for this.

Then I dry fitted all the struts to test the fit and assembly sequence. All struts except the cabines were too long and needed adjustment.

    4. Next I drilled a hole for the flight peg, which I had turned on the lathe.
    5. The cabine struts were now glued in using the wing as a jig to true them up.

Apart from the annoying oversized struts, and the fiddle to fit them, this was a straightforward build. The undercart was a lot easier to fit than I expected, and I was pleased with the overall result.

    Good morning Herr Oberst.
The aircraft is from jasta 6 based at Bernes during August 1918 and flown by Ltn Richard Wenzel.

Excellent building guide and report, Rob. Top model making skills there. This work of yours recalls me one craftsman's name: FABERGE! FABERGE!

If only I could command those prices my friend, we could buy all the planes we wanted.

I can fly her, have the stats thanks to the team, but now need a card for her.

I wouldn't mind a card, Rob. Just a default base with letters/numbers and pegs. And take off...

I'll have to talk nicely to Max then. It is one of the most annoying things that I can do the information onto the card backgrounds but am useless at layering for myself to make changes to existing planes.

Excellent job, Rob. This plane makes part of my childhood dreams. It is beautiful.

A great looking aircraft! I've only seen Jasta 6 birds with their tail stripes 'fore-and'aft' though, never at 45 degrees, although I seem to remember seeing a Jasta 7 D.VIII with a 'diagonal' tail?

Great job on the Fokkers! I have two that are waiting similar treatment.

Beautiful DVIII !!! So many kits have struts that are too long or too short. Many have holes for these struts in the wrong place or off center. This is true for all of the companies that produce the metal kits. Are these things ever test built? Do the manufacturers ever read these posts? The skilled builder can always put these kits together in spite of poor manufacture. The beginner will be completely discouraged. Great job you have done here. I have built several metal kits and I always begin by wondering, what will I have to "fix" on this one!? Thank you for taking the time to photograph and post this tutorial.

Thanks for all the very complimentary remarks chaps.
My next two offerings will be a couple of Nexus repaints, but then I'm starting that Nieuport for the contest.
