I have always been attracted to the Viking Age.
For me it has to be the colonial era with the Afghan wars and the wars against the Zulus, I still have all the hairs on my neck stand up when I hear 'Men of Harlech' Perhaps its just the overwhelming sense of Britishness, or perhaps I have just read to many Flashmans and watched Zulu too many times.
Stewart
The history of the Ottoman Empire because I read all the detective novels of Goodwin Jason and so I was fascinated by that historical period.
Napoleonic age and WW II.
That's it.

Voilà le soleil d'Austerlitz!
I love all history, even my local town has some very interesting history.
Interesting poll. Definitely WWII for me. History of this war was always present at my home. I read many books, my father always was encouraging me to read and discuss many battles and campaigns. Even today, he is 72, me 45 and I often buy WWII books which he reads first (I got no time!) then I house them in my library and read them... It's still a great time for us
"We do not stop playing when we get old, but we get old when we stop playing."
I have read the poll options once more and i miss one spectacular period: ACW - I think it deserves a separate option. Besides WWII it's the most inspiring war I am fond of. Not many wars of that time are so well documented and interesting (and not one of them spanned for 5 years!) -I mean Italian war of independence, Crimean War or the Franco-Prussian war 1870-71. I'm about to read J. and M. Shara's trilogy puiblished recently in Polish. Not to mention the well known movies ( G. and G&G) that I know almost by heart.

Mostly a mood thing. Ask me again tomorrow and I'll vote something else.
Today, I voted dark ages - Not exactly favorite (wouldn't want to live there), but very interesting. Lots of stuff going on then that laid the base for quite a lot of other stuff, going all the way into the present.

Spitfires! I mean... you know... those vushh... takakakakaka!!!! planes with beautiful round wings... ahhh.... spitfires....

WW2 is my preferred playing area, but I've got so many interest in everything that I can't start to tell what is my favourite subject, but these would stand up:
Rome,
Dark Ages,
Mongols,
Medieval Japan,
Arabic Invasions,
100 Years War,
Napoleonics,
Naval engagements in Napoleonic Wars
The period where the English longbow was an unmatchable lethal weapon on the battlefield.
for me
napoleonics followed very quickly by 7YW.. just love tricorns

I voted for WWII, but the American Civil War is also a top favorite.
What can I say I got 25yrs at either the northern fair (Californiaat blacks point and the southern fair at Malibu canyon and Riverside). So Renn faire
I would have to say WW2. Love the music back then and the dress. It also showed our true grit in the time of war.
Thomas
For me, its the American Civil War
World War II - all fronts, where you can see German war machine, special mention for U-boats.
World War II - this period has changed the world we live in deeply and is still so present.
As a wargamer I game dark ages ,colonial WW1 ww2 modern and many more as a history buff the Zulu war is my main interest so voted Victorian.
I love history in general but stand out periods for me are the end of the Dark Ages, then through the medieval period - especially 100 years war - ending (for me) with the Battle of Bosworth; I am pro Richard III despite all the Tudor propaganda shovelled down our throats growing up and schooling in England (sorry, I'll get my coat.)
Recently British colonial history has began to appeal since moving to NZ.
My favourite period has to be the one that I have been re-enacting for 20 years and wargaming for slightly longer. The English Civil war.
Next, My second re-enactment period. 15 years of The Wars of the Roses. Then my other re-enactment period, the 18th century Lace Wars culminating in The American Revolution, which was my main wargames army for many years. I also have a love of the American Civil War and a vast 15mm Army in that period too.

"Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death."
It is hard to pick an exact period, as each has there own specialities that facinate me, at the moment I game
1/Ancients
2/Dark Ages
3/7 years war and FIW
4/ ACW
5/ WW2
6/ WoG WW1 and WW2
It's a great way to explore a time period you love, that's for sure. And reenacting a time period you love sure beats reenacting one because "everyone else is doing that period."
I picked Other, because I didn't see my favorite on the list. In these parts we refer to "The Big 18th Century" which is a vague period covering roughly late 1600s to early 1800s. It might be equivalent to the "Period of Big Wigs and Hats" or "The Flintlock Era". I guess it all depends upon how one feels about the 18teens. My particular specialties within that time frame are 1680s and 17teens - buccaneers and pirates.
Next on my list would be Imperial Rome, followed by the Dark Ages. I also find the An Lushan Rebellion to be a fascinating period.
A difficult choice so many periods that are interesting
I went for The Renaissance (Europe, 14th century - 16th century) in the end as that covers the late medieval (Wars of the Roses) and Anglo/Scottish Border Reivers which are my current interests.
I also like the Fremen rebellion. That was a great conflict of wits vs. overwhelming power.
Here is that picture that I promised you Michael.
You can catch the rest in my Albums.

Haaa! A man after my own heart.
I learnt more about British History from Flashman books than I ever did at School.
I also watch Zulu at regular intivals.
However I voted Napoleonic due to Richard Sharpe & the 95th Rifles.
Got all the books & DVD plus the Sharpe Companions & a few books on the 95th & Wellingtons Peninsular Campains plus most of Alexander Kent's Richard Bolitho books.
What a shame they never made a TV series from those!
Must admit to a great interest in the American Civil War. I have lots of books on it plus the series of DVD's with the reinactments from first Bull Run to Appomattox. Also the DVDs, Glory, Gettysberg, Gods & Generals, the Last Confederate ( Not the last Widow one! lol!) & of course Gone with the Wind.

+ Crusading era (post Dark Age - Renaissance Europe)
As a professional archaeologist, I can't really pick just one time period. I had to choose "other", which means I love all historic periods.
All of it, my personal library is about 50% history and the rest is all over the place. But any of the time lines you posted are great.
Napoleonic for me. Great looking on the wargame table, be it land (especially the Polish Lancers) or sea (all nations).
You missed the European Medieval Age (500-1500)
Through my life i was interested in
Napoleonic Area
Medieval Age
Ancient Rome
Ancient Greece
Byzantium
Medieval Japan
Ancient China
WWI
WWII
30Year War
100 Year War
Mesopothamia
Egypt
etc
Definitely the later European Dark Ages into the War of the Roses.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too many choices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a headache now just thinking about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm from Florence and I can't vote anything but Renaissance!!
Marco
I can only agree on your choice given the importance of time and your location in Italy. An obvious question: whose side do you usually play: Guelphs or Ghibellines?
Florence, Florence...Marco! So we have something in common
Do you know, that the Town Hall in my home town, Opole, was built to resemble (a bit) your famous Palazzo Vecchio? Have a look at it's recent shape reconstructed in thirties, XX:
