Default What is the MAIN reason YOU play WoG?

OK, this is a fantastic game for many reasons, but if you could express just one MAIN reason you play WoG, what the reason would be?

Thats a hard one ,I put socialising because its one of the few games that my whole family plays but its great for so many reasons.

  3. #3

    Default

Several reasons for me. I always was interested in WWI aviation, love the minis and the kids occasionaly indulge me in a game or two. Only regret is not having a playing group nearby.

  4. #4

    Default

I checked the socialising aspect - despite the fact I don't get group play that often when I do everyone walks away with a smile on their face.

I vote for it's socializing effect. I can gather many people of different age to have fun by the gaming table! Everyone is invited.

Because its fun and easy to play, because I love the aircraft of the period and because I've had an interest in wargaming WW1 air for decades. I certainly don't play it for the "simulation" aspect since I don't think you could honestly call it a particularly good simulation, but the fun, playable and social aspects outweigh that.

I mostly like the aspect, that I can play the game just as well with my friends, as with family, or my girlfiriend etc. Everyone likes this game, although they like different aspects of it. There are some, who like the strategic aspect, others who like the historical aspect and again some like the miniatures most. All in all there are different likes about this game, but in the end it connects us all and grants us everytime a great gaming evening!

The fact that the simulation is easy to use, needs only limited space, can be made ready in no time, and is quick to resolve if required. All the things that are an improvement on my other War ganmes periods, which need half a day to set up and take down.

    Thumbs up

Well I have been keen on the Historical aspect of WW1 Aviation since my teens (A long, long time ago!) plus WoG fulfils my wargaming & model painting needs & its just so much fun to play & socialise with mates.

It's a fun game to play and it's quick and easy to introduce somebody new.
Being a wargamer who prefers miniatures to boardgaming I really like the visual aspect of using the aircraft models.
I prefer the WW1 game as it plays better IMHO

I love he game myself ands a rare game in that it's possible to get non-wargamers, even non-gamers, to enjoy it. And has a quick startup for such a versatile game.
Also, it's a game I can greatly enjoy even when I don't have time, or opportunity, to actually play it - Through the hobby aspect.

Back in the day I used to play the mega games: Advanced Squad Leader, Third Reich, World in Flames. Now I have much less time/opportunity to play and a bit more money to spend on hobbies/gaming.

    Contributing factors to playing WoG:
    Aviation History buff
    War Gaming
    Playable in under an hour
    Minis and repaints!
    Easy set up/game mechanics

Winner is ... Aviation history. If it was something else, I wouldn't be as into it.

I clicked "Other". Having thought about it, I think I like it because I like playing with and collecting toy airplanes. This probably goes back to my childhood, when my best friend and I both collected Bachmann Mini Planes. I miss those days, and those planes, and these fill that void. Now if I could only get my friend to come out and play a game with us, that would be cool. I keep asking, but he has not yet taken the plunge.

I've always loved military aviation history. WWI was the most colorful period with personalities and literally with aircraft paint scemes.

Some of it is history, but...by and large I'm just drawn to the romantic notions of these men taking to the skies in the most advanced and imperfect technology of their time. They were pioneers and gods and revered rightfully so. They set the standards for the archetypes of heroism and glory in our modern era. The aviators were as colorful as the planes they flew and the era was so depressing and drab that they provide an entree to a world of grim and horror by figuratively and literally being above it all.

There should be another choice all the above.

I like the models, and the game mechanics. Also, the simplicity of the rulebook (V.IMPORTANT).
No fun in trawling through a rulebook that can rival the read time of J.R.Tolkien LoTr!

I marked socializing. Whenever somebody new sees this game they get a big smile on their face. Its easy to play, but yet can be complicated to learn. I've always been interested in history, but until I started WoW I had only read a few books about WWI. Also, throughout my formal education, grade school, high school and college, I've never had a history teacher that spent more than 2 periods discussing US involvement in WWI. And the only reason he discussed WWI was because our school had a class field trip to Cantigny Memorial Park in Wheaton, IL.

I chose other, as i play other heavier aviation games for the simulation aspect (Bag the Hun, In Clouds of Glory)..

    WoW is for me:
    Quick and dirty War Gaming.
Playable in under an hour, several (same/other) games can be played on the same boardgame night depending on mood.
    Simple and consistent mechanics.
Goes fine along with snacks and beer.
    I am an aviation buff.

The joy of the game. Seeing the mini's take off in formations and fly across the table to accomplish a mission is rewarding. When you confront your opponent and the battle begins is exciting. The crazy twists and turns, the unpredictable results always tell a story. This is my favorite board game. The more you put into it, with creating your own scenarios, flying new mini's, using more advanced rules, creates a more rewarding experience for all players involved. The experience of the game is why I keep coming back to the game. Win or lose, "Wings of War/Glory" is an amazing experience.

I love military history so I chose the first option, but part of that love has always been model building, so this WoG kind of fits both.

History was a main reason but I love the simulation aspect. War gameing has always interested me and the models really enhance the game play. And its not a video game that the kids will play. Hopefully I can find some like minded mates to take to the sky with me.

It's the socialising effect that gets my vote. I bought the WW1 Delux set, took it to my wargame club and it was an instant success. Within weeks everyone had a least one aircraft and several were given as birthday presents and much appreciated.
Our club, Wizards & Warlords are now about to use WoG as our partiscipation game at Legionary, Exeter where we hope to interest others to become involved.
I particularly like the historical and modeling side of the hobby but others represent a wide range of views as to why they're interested. For some, I know, it's the fabulous colour schemes or the performance figures while some love to perfect their tactics.
All in all its a great all round favourite and long may it remain.

Actually Sociailising and Model-Making run close together in all my game eras. However, Researching a topic is fun also.
Since much of my research is for painting a model properly....I have to chose Model-Making.

I play it at a friends house where a group of us get together wargaming, we played it first on a week when only a couple of us could make it and as a filler between battles in our Warhammer campaign. I am now thinking of buying it to play with my kids as it is simple enough for them to enjoy and gives me an excuse to explain to my wife why I am buying model planes . Its for the kids darling honest
