Here is a cheap and quick way to make bases for Skytrex models.

    7. I edited a file from this site “Miniature Base Cards1” and printed the results on transparence paper. Cutting out, in this case, “Sopwith Camel”. I sprayed the transparence with adhesive and carefully slide it to the very front of the base. Still looking for a better method as this caused some spotting.

    8. I put glue in the inside ridge of the base as the front piece will fall off when you trim it. It is not necessary to trim it. You can just notch the ends (arrows) so the cards can slide under.

    9. Using Exacto knife cut a small hole at the base of the firing arc. Twist slowly till it is just large enough for the peg to fit. May take a number of tries.

    10. Insert pegs to desired altitude. I used a cut off nail for mounting as I found the model too heavy for other methods.

11.Mounted and ready to go. Notice notch to allow card to slide under base. I also leave the back open as I find it easier to line up the arrows then remove the card. Not as elegant as the official stand but it is a fast and cheap way to mount Skytrex models.

Nice, Jack! Cheap to do and versatile. Thanks... Now, where can I find a tictac freshmints in Portugal?...

They are manufactured by the Italian confectioner Ferrero (Ferrero Iberica SA in Portugal). Maybe they have a website. I googled Tic Tacs - a list of countries and flavor listed the closest as France. I do not know if they have the larger size casing. It may also be a different product name as it is in many countries.

Ingenious, Jack! As for the gluing transparent paper to the base - have you tried self-adhesive transparencies?

FERRERO IBÉRICA S.A. doesn't make them - but they may be able to tell you how to get them, or even arrange a sample.

Ingenious indeed. To think of all the Tic-tacs I have bought for my children and never saved the boxes!

Did you make the metal guides, or did you get them from somewhere?

The metal guides are actually stands I have for mounting miniatures. I used eight of them to get the height I wanted but any metal will do. I originally tried wood but the Exacto knife would some times cut into it.

Just a reminder - You need to use the Large1 oz (29g) size of Tic Tacs rather than the standard 2/8 oz (18g).

Thanks, Enrico! I went to Italy many years ago, and I loved it. I'd love to went there again. Even if only to hunt for tic tac boxes.
In Portugal, the horror... the horror... (sounding like Marlon Brando) all Tic Tac boxes are currently... orange...

I never went to Portugal, but my brother has been there two summers ago. He advised me to take a trip to Lisbon. I think one day I will have a holiday in Portugal.
Not worry, also in Italy happen that you find only white or only orange Tic Tac (I think orange is better flavor )....

Default Cheap and Fast Altitude Pegs

Now that you have your bases you may need altitude pegs until they are available from Heer Oberst. So here is a fast and cheap way to make some from holiday swizzel sticks (you can still probably get them for 50% off original price).

I just hope ARES decides to sell bases, pegs and cards without the plays. Say a three pack. Would save me a lot of time and I could replace these homemade ones.

In the meantime yet another good source of clear plastic for all manner of uses in our hobby.
