Thread: Origins Game Fair is the official convention of Wings of Glory Aerodrome.

  1. #1

Default Origins Game Fair is the official convention of Wings of Glory Aerodrome.

I am proud to announce that Origins Game Fair has been selected as the official convention of Wings of War Aerodrome.

What does this mean to you, the members of the Aerodrome?

It means that every year the Aerodrome Con Committee will be running various Wings of Glory WWI and WWII events at the Con. This should make it easier for those of you that would like to come in the future, to make plans on being there since you will know we will have a strong presence there.

As the official Con, we want to make it possible for everyone to attend that wants to. Obviously, we can not actually bring everyone to the Con, but we have decided that each year we will select one member from the site that has gone above and beyond the call of duty and contributed to the site in multiple ways. This will be know as our Lend-Lease program. Any member of the site is eligible for the Lend-Lease program. Besides the contributions made here on the site by any members being considered, reality dictates that we have to factor in logistical issues as well. Our goal is to cover the cost of airfare and hotel for this lucky person.

We are also going to be looking into special prizes and merchandise for the Con each year that you can only get at the Con.

As this is all in it's infancy, more things are to come out of this and as always, your ideas and thoughts are welcome.

That's great to hear, Hajj! Especially for someone like me who's going to attend this convention sometime in the future. I'm looking forward to some pics/video of the few events I won't be there so I'm not missing out on all the action.

OK. I vote for Zoe Brain. Bring her there, Herr Oberst. There is no better candidate for L-L programe. Any votes against? I can't see any.

I was going to say similar, but there are so many helpful people here it is hard to choose! Zoe, GullyRaker, at least 4 of the British fellas, I don't envy you guys making the choice...

Looking at the winner's contributions... much as I appreciate the kind nominations, I'm not in his league. I can think of a few others who are. but not me. Not yet.

Well done to the selection panel on getting it so right, and congrats to the winner. Well deserved!

What a brilliant idea!! Lend-lease member. Now that is a great way to thank those who post us so much joy and support. I will gladly join in. Blauer Baron

(By the way, will the airfare support be for passenger airlines or replica plane flights, possibly Atlantic-crossing flights etc. the price of Kerosin for a Sopwith for such a flight is rather high.)LOL

    2. Have you guys noticed that these days Lend-Lease Operation is going backwards? Ha, this time UK will provide a reliable support for the US case
    3. We, the European members wil be well represented
    4. Next time it should be someone from down under (don't be so modest, Zoe, all the tough guys there would faint if you came with your models!).

Thanks chaps. I must admit I was absolutely gobsmacked to get the Oberst's PM at the weekend. Indeed, my gob has never been so smacked, even by Mrs Guntruck!

I will try and uphold the reputation of Brits abroad - on second thoughts, perhaps not

@Zoe - methinks the lady doth protest too much. I think you are a worthy candidate for this honour, given the amount of knowledge, help and advice you put into this forum, not to mention the prodigious amount of work you have been doing on the unofficial stats committee, the latter not being immediately visible to the membership.

    Hmm...

If Guntruck is in the USA -, there is one Entente ace less at the Westfront...

Means more operational freedom for my Jasta.

    Ok, one ticket for me.

Congratulations Steve. I think the comittee made the perfect choice! Now I am doubly stoked about Origins this year. I will be listing you as an Assistant GM, and if there is a scenario you would like to see run or would like to run for one of our events, please let us know in the Call for GMs thread!

    Looking forward to meeting you!

Not as such, no. I knew at age 10 I'd be "the girl with the wonderful personality".

Besides which, "Spunky Girl Rocket Scientist" is more me anyway. Think "Zoe" from Dr Who, or "Kaylee" from Firefly. Or Dr. Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway in Contact. And yes, I have had to ask G/Fs for clothing advice before going to formal do's.

Default Attention those planning to attend Origins.

If you are planning to attend Origins this year, or even might be planning to attend, please PM me with your Full Name, Email address, address, and Telephone Number. In turn, for a little of your help running our events this year (setup, tear down, assisting the GMs, etc...), you will be able to purchase a 4 day badge for half Price.

Try to get me your info as soon as possible. I will be updating this thread with registration info as it becomes available.

I'm still far from definite, but I recently realized that this year (probably for the last time in my life) I am in the unique position of having vacation I must use, and no one to use it with (the wife is still building leave). So, if I can keep the actual trip expenses reasonable, this has bumped up on the list of things to do.

Thing is, it seems an awful waste to travel all that way, and not zip over to Wright-Patterson. I saw mention of an outing last year; what's the likelihood of organizing one this year, or has it already "been done"?

I may have a Hotel alternative for you... we just need to chat about it sometime soon. I can then also get you the info you need to get registered for half price for a 4 day Con pass.
