I had fun with it 30+ years ago. I'd venture to guess it was my second wargame, after PanzerBlitz. (No, wait. Maybe third, since Ogre was the second wargame I owned.) My copy is sitting here next to me. I flipped through it the other day, and I have to say I'm tempted to give it try.
Haven't played that game in years. I have search my stuff and find it. How about Air Force? That was a great game had many good battles with that one also.
Never tried Air Force, but I've heard it was fun.
My copy of Richtofen's War has been up in the attic for years. I can't remember the last time I played it. Now B-17, Queen of the Skies, that one still gets played regular.
Board Game Geeks have good information about Richtofens War.

Shipping is high and the price is more than I want to pay to try an old game... but I'll keep my eye open for a copy at the LGS. (since he keeps such a great collection of old games, used and new...)

Search for Richthofen's War on Ebay and you should get about 18 results.
Some are over priced but others are not too bad.

Blue Max, AirForce/Dauntless, Richthofen's War, B-17 Queen of the Skies. I've played these since forever. My copies are well kept and dandy. I hope to play it with my grandsons one day.
Played Air Force many a days when I was stationed on Okinawa. Had a group of us that would get together. Had a good time with that game.
I'm jealous, I never played any of those games. I must of had a sheltered life.

Air Force is still, in my opinion, the best WW2 boardgame simulator ever done. But... not... for... everyone.
Still have it, and the expansion maneuver cards. Also have Wings by Yaquinto: http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2742/wings
Played both of them extensively. Wings being far more complex, while Richthofen's War was much quicker and easier. Both lost of fun though.
I never played Wings. How is the system?
I have a copy Tom, maybe we'll play a game sometime.

Well after seeing all these name there was always MIDWAY.
Don't remember B-17. But progression of AH games Gettysburg and Tactics first copies in the early 60"s/ and Jutland/Blitzgreig/Guadacanal/Air Force/Ricthoefens War/Submarine/Midway and Afika Corp. I think those are the AH games I have. May be others that I forgot.
Wooden Ships and Iron Men!!
Squad Leader.
Dune!!
Played tons of Panzer Blitz/Leader and Luftwaffe in high school and college. Still have all of them.
Cap, just p/u'd a copy of WINGS so perhaps you, Karl & I can try the multiplayer setup.
B-17 is, in some ways, just an exercise in dice rolling. But it was fun.

Now yer talkin'! I still have my copy of The Ogre Book, and not too long ago I played a game of Ogre, using my old first edition copy of the rules, with one of my gamer friends during lunch. That was a blast. We played it twice, and then a day or two later we played another Metagaming classic - WarpWar!
I lost my copies of Ogre and GEV when I moved last but still hope to find them in the loft one day. I've still got my copy of Ace of Aces though
I've played a lot of OGRE and then I've played an RPG based on OGRE that was very damn good.
And for the "memories festival" I cannot let unsung my first Scifi love: Leviathan!!
One of the most memorable games that I ever played was Starship Troopers.
I killed all of the Bugs, destroyed their hives and won the game (or so I thought).
When my recovery shuttle came in to pick up my troops, it landed in a nuclear slag pile and my troops were stranded and starved on the alien world.

Your opponents needed work on their tactics, then -- what the flavor-text says about the _Venatrix_ is about the way my _Leviathan_ games played out: Spinal-mount shots were rare, and hits even more so.. Meanwhile, my units (I had an entire design school based on the "no spinal mount; extra thrust" concept) are shredding my opposition. :)
The only "wake" I ever saw _Kraken_ leave was of wreckage and body parts. >;)
Spinal mounts hits were even rarer?! That is odd, Chris, since spinal mount shots didn't had the shields modifiers against them. And sooner or later a Battleship would always fall under the firing arc of a spinal mount. And as the Venatrix didn't have that "dissuader" no one was afraid to move straight against her. She might peel of some armour, but when the spinal mounts cut a deep wound against her, she started to bleed very soon.
The only thing that I didn't like about Leviathan were the missiles. Too powerful and dicey. Sometimes a game was spoiled on account of them. We cut their power to 1/3 and it got much better.
