Default SHAPEWAYS FB5 and HALBERSTADT DIII COMPLETED

These are the latest completed Shapeways models. The Halberstadt is the best so far from the finish of the model and my completion. The FB5 had a few problems, frosting on Nacelle, struts and the fin. Also dipping on both wings which 'Duh' I failed to pick up until I'd started to paint! On the whole very happy. I devised a system of using very fine cord as a scarf for crewmen, cord is Langton's rigging cord, double it, touch of S/Glue, knot around neck, then twist at rear adding more glue. Not only does it look authentic but gives you a nice handle to load the little blighters with out touching them! All good in theory, try doing it in reverse, alla a two man pusher!
Only last minute prob with the Gunbus was the part peg with added b/bearing caused the a/c top tip back as you can only fit forward of the u/c cross beam. Adding a shorter peg solved the prob.
    Enjoy!!

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts, The Gunbus is Rees & Hargreaves of 11 Squadron the Halberstadt is Erst Althaus of Jasta 4. Both references from Osprey's Pusher Aces and Early German Aces.

I can only second what has been said already by the chaps. That scarf gave me a smile. A neat little bit of extra detail.

Thanks for looking and all your kind comments.
After clearing my Shapeways backlog (now I have decals), at 0800 this morning a courier arrived from Shapeways with a large box containing 2 Eindeckers and a delightful little Nieuport 11 Bebe.
Can't wait to get stuck in!!!

Those two are real masterpieces (especially the Halberstadt!)

How did you get the scarf like that?

    Hi Bilbo,
I tried 'green stuff' but it always got damaged when trying to mount the pilot. I thought of fine rigging cord (sold by Langton Minis in UK - for 1/2400 ships) which I use on the minis. I doubled it, but a dribble of supa glue on and tie around the neck. Then I add more glue to the twisted cord and leave until hard. I then use this to mount the pilots without having to touch them. When fixed, cut to required length and paint as required!

Many thanks Chris. It proves you can use some skills from other hobbies or wargames periods.

But I have a question: where do you get the machine-guns ( and the pilots for that matter...are they Peter Pigs'? )

    Hi Zoe
I was hoping we would use all your superb minis, so as not to embarrass mine! ABW I should be accompanying Barry on the Friday for the day, looking forward to meeting you.

    Hi Alex
Yes I believe they are Peter Pig's, although the MG on the Gunbus is moulded on to the model. This initially was a problem as the observer would not fit. While trying to force him to 'sit down' it broke off cleanly. So he mounted easily and I glued the M/Gun back, and it would have fitted in other directions if you preferred.

I have no shame, as mine don't look as good as yours. Seriously, that's not false modesty, mine are adequate for game purposes, that's all. I'm not a very good painter. Decals, yes, those I can do.

There's at least one local here who really is a good painter, you see. The difference between my efforts and his are striking.

I'm out of my comfort zone with Aircraft (especially prebuild !/144! I've been a Pro painter since 1976 but its always great to get a new challenge especially in the twilight of my painting career. BTW when did you post your Caprioni Bomber, I cant find it, would love to see it!
