I'm a confirmed Thaiophile. A place with many faults, yet a place I really like. Not sure why, but I do. It is... different though.
Precis of the song - it's a traditional boy meets girl story.
A guy from a rural rubber plantation goes to the Big City to make his fortune as a motorcycle (mota-sai) taxi driver. He picks up with a sophisticated city girl who dumps him.
An innocent country lass (grade 9 education) also comes to the Big City seeking to make good. She gets a good job as a sex worker, and concubine of a Fat Cat sugar daddy - but he and his wife won't even allow her to play pop music.
The two meet, fall in love, move in together, save up like crazy and open a nightclub - the Bao Parn, Carabao's macho music that he likes, Parn's unashamed chick music that she likes. "Boy Bao, Girl Parn". - Num Bao, Sai Parn.
As with so many Thai songs, it's slushy and sentimental and really rather sweet.
A piece of advice: unless your Thai is very, very good, don't try ordering orange juice in Thai. You see, Nam sum (falling tone) is orange juice, but Nam sum (even tone) is toilet water.... and some Thais have a low and mischievous sense of humour.
