Does it matter? For me the only thing that matters is that the dueling planes are from the same period.

Has to be 1916/17. The golden era for Albert Ball.

Bloody April onwards. Nicer mix of aircraft.

1917/18 for me. The classic line-up of scouts at their finest.

BTW, why isn't 1917 (post April, when the SE5, Camel, and SPAD come into use), or late 1917/18 an option? I didn't vote.

    Bloody April.
Just today I have found a little parcel with a book in my mailbox.
It's Peter Hart's: "Bloody April" that I had bought in a UK online store several days ago. 356 pages of little print. Good reading ahead...

I fully endorse what you are saying Andrzej. A bloody good read. Any of the new chaps who have not read it should try to get a copy.

Andrzej, please give us a book rewiew when you´ll get to the end of the book
(waiting for the post tomorow )

    back to the thread:
Time period is not important for me, as long as I can play in the austrian/italian area or as a Pfalz-pilot.

Don't pull my leg, Matthias! I'm not THAT good in fast reading!
(Frankly, I must finish Otto Carius' "Tigers in the Mud" first).

I started with Peter Hart's book on Bloody April, then read his book on 1918, and tracked down his book on the Somme air battles as well (he also wrote what I thought was a good book on the Somme campaign on the ground). I like the style, the immediacy of the first-hand accounts. However, for purposes of this poll, I will have to go with 1918, specifically the time around the German Spring Offensive, as the fighting described in Yeates' Winged Victory is horrific but memorable.

I love all the planes and enjoy flying any time period during WWI, so I had to vote for the "whole shebang!"
