I guess asking for a Shinden was a bit too much...

The Shinden would be a very sweet mini to have, but not quite practical game wise I think

Shinden yes, that would have been my choice.

Had to go with the KI-43. It was legendary for it's performance in East Asia during the early part of the war. Though it's light weight construction, lack of armour and limited firepower, proved to be deficient enough in the later part of the war. Even so, the KI-43 shot down more Allied aircraft then any other Japanese fighter plane.

    I voted for the Ki-43

I voted for the Ki-84 due to its outstanding abilities (the only Japanese fighter that could really out do the P-51D and most of the other allied planes.)

However, with the Ki-43 and A6M2 Zero already available in the game and the later high performance airplanes not yet created, I would like to see some of the early Japanese airplanes. The Ki-10 biplane saw as much action as the C.42 or the Gladiator. The Ki-27 was used from the Nomohan Incident up to homeland defense at the end of the war. The first Japanese fighter that the AVG went against was the Ki-27. The A5M4 Claude fought in China and was still used on the fleet carriers up through the Battle of the Coral Sea for CAP flights.

Went with the "Oscar". I believe, to me anyway, it had alot of the aerodynimic lines of the better Allied fighters. Maybe it just reminds me of hot dogs.

  17. #17

I went with the Jack here because it was a niche plane that was plagued with issues and could never compete with the P-51D Mustangs.

So why not go again with the more popular plane? Because I only wanna see Japanese planes in the ocean or on the ground in flames. I won't say that about any other combatant nation in any of the Wings of War series except for Japan. I grew up in Detroit...what do you expect? (BTW...Ford overtook the #2 spot from Toyota today in Market Share)

Since these are already molded in 1/144 scale plastic model kits lets see some WoW compatible stands for them???

The Oscar would fit in best. Although not listed, I would like to see the Nate, the AVG's main opponent before the Oscars became more predominant.

I would like to see a Nakajima Ki27 (Nate) is would be intresting to see how some of the early war jap planes performed especially when faced by a Nationalist Chinnes Polikarpov I-16

I really didn't know. Definetly not the Jack for me, but the others were just so cool, and I picked the Frank just because.

The Oscar is pretty much essential to gaming the war, since it entered service so early and stayed in use until the end.

  29. #29

Yes, Oscar is a must. Hopefully at some point they go back and give us the Oscar, along with SBD Dauntless, P-39, and another early war plane like the Folgore and clean up the missing planes that had cards. Yeah, I realize they didnt make a Folgore card.

    We're getting a Frank.
    I have two AIM Oscars.
And I've recently got 2 (each) of the Jack and George from HBM.

The Oscar is a must historically, despite its woeful armament.
The Jack is fast, but maneuvers poorly.
The Frank is the UberPlane of late-war Japan. Not grossly fast, but maneuverable and well-armed, the equal of any opponent.

Voted for the Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa "Oscar" as I know that Japan used this aircraft type extensively throughout the Pacific Theatre. However coming close but still in second place is the more modern Mitsubishi J2M Raiden "Jack" single-engine fighter.

Not all that familiar with Japanese WW2 aviation but am learning more every time I come across a new aircraft type: Particularly if it enters my Regular 1/72 Scale Collection or Wings of Glory Official Collection. The latest types this applies to are the Kawasaki KI-61 Hien (one of which is the only aircraft available for Wings of Glory WW2 / WGS to fire D Damage Tokens!) Plus the Nakajima KI-84 Hayate which I have played WGS games with on a regular basis and it has become one of my favourites for doing so.

No-one has mentioned the Nakajima Ki-44 Shoki (Tojo). It was used mainly as a bomber interceptor and some of the later versions had heavy armament.
