    Default converting numbers

Well boys thanks for the invitation to the officers mess. I have a question that maybe you can hlep me with. 1/144th scale . I am working on building my own gotha bomber. But I need to know the ratio of feet to inches. The wings span on a gotha is 77 ft so how do I figure this to 1/144th

To convert a scale from original size to 144 scale. If using imperial system feet and inches. First multiply the number of feet by 12 then add any inches this gives you the total size in inches. Now divide by 144 this gives you the scale size in inches and tenths of inches.
If using the metric system take the total size and divide by 144.
If converting from imperial to metric take the number of feet multiply by 12 add any inches this gives you the total inches now multiply by 25.4 this gives you the total mm now divide by 144
If you want any other scale use that scale instead of 144 eg for 72nd scale use 72
Hope this is what you are after.
Side note if you are printing out plans from the computer note that some printers reduces by about 2% from what is on screen so check that what is printed is still to scale. Takes me a couple of goes to get plans to printed scale.
Also check that the plan is not in more than one scale and double check by checking length of aircraft as well as wingspan.

    Examples
    Wingspan 42.2m divide by 144 equals 29.3cm
    Wingspan 29ft 5inches 29 x 12 = 348 + 5 = 353in divide by 144 = 2.45 inches
    Wingspan 29ft 5inches 29 x 12 = 348 + 5 = 353in x 25.4 = 8966mm divide by 144 = 62.2 mm

And in answer to your question
There are 12 inches to a foot so
    77ft x12 = 924 inches
    924 divided by 144 = 6.42inches
    Or in metric
    924 x 25.4 = 23469.6mm divided by 144 = 162.9mm
don't forget to check the length as well.
