Thread: Fokker DVII Repaint.

  1. #1

    Default Fokker DVII Repaint.

I have just completed my repaint of Gunther von Buren's Jasta 18 D VII. Here is a synopsis of how I carried it out.
With thanks to Gunners and Dom for supplying the decals.

Here is the plane after a night in the freezer and rapid emersion in almost boiling water to shock the glued joints apart.

Note that I have also removed the decal camo to reveal the original colour underneath.
This was achieved by the use of Micro sol and a cocktail stick.

The next stage was to spray undercoat the plane white.

The next process was to paint the main body of the plane in red and white

Then the details were added, and given a black wash.

I then cut out the decals to a template I had made by drawing around the wings.

Micro set was applied to the under wings and the decals were afixed.

The plane was left to dry overnight.

It was then re-assembled with superglue.

It was now ready for the rest of the decals to be positioned.

Micro set was applied again, and once the decals were firmly in place, Micro sol was lightly brushed over to aid the conformity to the body.

The completed aircraft was given a coat of gloss varnish, followed
by one of Testor's Dull coat to take off the shine.

I hope you mean two bottles Rich. It looks like I'm going to need them for my next couple of rebuilds. I only undid the packet this morning and already am pulling my hair out. I can't afford to do that with what little hair is left to me.

Do you have the ability to print decal paper Enrico. If so we may be able to do something.

To all the rest of you who have posted here.

It is one of the main things that keeps up the enjoyment of continueing to doing the rebuilds and repaints, instead of just flying off into the Sunset. That, combined with seeing others work improving until it excells my own, is one of the great things about this site. It is not just a chat room, it is active in extending our knowledge base in so many different ways.
The thanks should really go to you chaps for motivating me.

I was very tempted to leave it the plastic red which was the same pinky red as the original Red Barron one, but it looked a bit too slick, so I base coated the whole plane white, and used Games Workshop Blopod Red for the finish.
