    Book Title:
    I Flew for The Fuhrer
    Author:
    Heinz Knocke
    ISBN:
    978-1853672637
    Category:
    Autobiography
    Format:
    Paperback and Hardback
    Summary:
The story of a German airman is the sub-title and it is probably the best perspective of a WW2 German pilot available. It is written in a diary format briefly detailing the authors early life before following him on throughout the war years & covering some of his combats against allied fighters and USAAF heavies in the skies over Germany. It tells all, what he saw, how he felt, the crashes, the wounds, the lost comrades right to the wars end. It is a must read for anyone interested in the period or just interested in pilots and flying.

I have a 1953 copy I picked up at a second hand shop years ago; amongst one of my best buys and always worth another read.
It was nice to get an idea of how it was on the other side having read books about Bader, Tuck, Johnson, Closterman, Wellum, Rawnsley & Deere !

This was one of many books on my dad's bookshelf that I remember reading as a teenager. When he died I made sure it ended up on mine (along with Closterman's other book 'Flames in the Sky') - easy as my brother is a model train fanatic and so he wasn't interested in any avaiation titles.

There used to be a website many years ago maintained by a Frenchman (Frank Ruffino). Part of it was a very detailed list of his claims and who they could really have been.

Sadly, like many sites running on few dollars and much enthusiasm, it is lost in the Internet wilderness though you can stumble on remnants of it (with broken links) now and again, like this:
