    Building the DH2.

This is another easy one, for the beginner.

    1. Clean up the casting.
    2. Open up all holes until the struts will slip in easily.
    3. Fit the struts in pairs, and glue to lower wing. Use the upper wing placed on top to align them

    5. Marry up the top and bottom wings and glue struts and cabines to the opposing parts.

    Hmmm.....
Is this the same model some people were having kittens about over the mysterious `tailskid` bit on another thread.
If it is it looks like Skytrex must have upgraded it.
Incidently, I`ve been looking closely at some DH-2 photos just recently and it looks to me that there is a horizontal strut located on the bottom between the second set of vertical struts, forming the bottom base of a square with the leading edge of the tail making the top.
If thats true then there are a lot of inacurate plastic models out there!
Its only just visible in photos taken from the 7 and 5 o`clock positions and very easy to miss.

Yep, make you right on the `extra` horizontal strut Rabbit !
Will be interesting to see if it`s omitted from the forthcoming wow version !

If you can get hold of Windsock DF 48, in addition to the GAs (where, to be fair it doesn't stand out), there is a photo on the inside cover which clearly shows the horizontal strut, which makes a structural box, just like on an FE2b/d.

According to the DF, all metal components (like the horizontal tail struts) 'were finished in light grey'.

    Overall though, it looks great!

Yes Baldrick, I have seen this too. I just built it as it was sent, to illustrate the kit.

Rob, no criticism meant; love your work, and the encouragement it gives to others. I need to start posting too.

Meanwhile, it must be bar o'clock.

Non taken old bean. I was just trying to explain my raison d'etre rather late at night, so probably too terse to get my meaning over clearly. Did I hear you mention the bar Balders old chum?

Very nice job again Rob, although not mad about the silver scaffold poles! Treat 'em to a coat of grey please

Regarding the horizontal strut, did DH2s really have this? I've perused a bunch of 3-views, and none have shown this.

Yes to the horizontal strut; it seems to be missed more often than not, or mistaken for a rigging wire sometimes, but try this photo:

    http://williamwhitson.com/planes/AIRCO.html

There are several photos in the DH2 Windsock Datafile as well which confirm it was there; only really shows up in rear quarter shots though due to the position; it's usually obscured.

That does it I will have to totally destroy my DH2 and start over again I can't have my plane missing a strut. Funny thing is I fitted the strut to the Fe2b. Two jobs now fix DH2 strut and redesign undercarriage on EIII. Oh the strain of not having them right maybe need more wine to straighten the nerves. Where did that Merlot go?

Steve, or should that be Thomas, o ye of little faith! Any GAs or three-views, unless they're the original plans, are a draughtsman's interpretation of photographs or descriptions. You need to find images of photographs for yourself to confirm the truth (structural truth that is, as I think we all know how dodgy it can be trying to interpret colour values from orthochromatic film).

    Steve will do nicely Baldrick.

I'm aware that checking photos would prove or disprove the theory, as I did last night when I got home from work. I posed the question while I was at work without access to any decent references, hence the question.

Right, deffo got horizontal bracing struts top and bottom, in line with the rearmost vertical struts. Tucked just under the front of the horizontal stabiliser so doesn't really show on overhead plans. Better open a bottle of Merlot to celebrate Linz.

This will be the most expensive 1/144 scale strut in the world.
    Costings
Strut, Glue, Paint and time fitting them $3.50 (I value my time Highly)
Bottles of Merlot comsumed worring about Strut 6 @ $30.00 each
    Total price of Strut $183.50
    Great Value for money.

How do you mount this plane on the base? From the card it looks like the post would go where the aircraft ain't.

Edit: Looked at the set 5 post photos. Here you can see the post just in front of the prop:

Also in the first two pictures you can see the horizontal strut.

The mounting peg can be seen in the last photo, it's pretty much as aft as you can get so I suspect you're right about it sitting a little backwards on the stand.

First time I've seen the Nexus DH2. Doesn't look bad at all, apart from the midget pilot. Never mind, out with the Dremmel!

Question on the Skytrex DH2 Rob - does it have the top wing gravity tank?

The short answer to that Steve is no. But never being known for my taciturn nature, i will give you the benefit of my vast experience on the topic.
No, but I think it would be an easy problem to rectify.
