Thread: Supermarine Walrus

    Default Supermarine Walrus

I was tempted by the Skytrex model so I ordered it!

Now then, I seem to have found a couple of colour schemes but generally some extra information is lacking. I know it had 3-4 crew, consisting of a Pilot and 2 others. I know it had 2 gunnery spots as well as stations for radio/navigation. I also know that the 4th crewman would normally be a co-pilot.

What I'd like is something a little more specific, pilots name and squadron would be good along with some more specific in what tasks they actually performed.

276 squadron looks like a likely subject. A Walrus + 1-2 defiants would make for a good S&R scenario.

    Thoughts, pointers?

    cheers,

    Dave.

    The Supermarine Walrus served with nos 269, 275, 276, 277, 278, 281 & 282 R.A.F. air-sea rescue squadrons in the U.K. and nos 283, 284, 293 & 294 squadrons in the Middle East.

It was also catapulted from battleships and large cruisers for naval artilliary spotting, scouting and occasionally bombing. Fleet Air Arm squadrons nos 700, 701, 711, 712 & 714. They were also used for anti-submarine and convoy patrols and communications duties.

This information comes from 'War Planes of the Second World War vol. 5 Flying Boats' by William Green.
