I'll come with the planes ready to go for the Artillery Spotting mission; 2 Brequets (B firing; ignore evidence to the contrary) being escorted by up to 4 Nieuport 17s from the Lafayette Escadrille, running up against as many as 6 Albatros D.Vas from Ernst Udet's Jasta 37. I'm just not sure what to do if we get over 12 people...

My thoughts on the scenario are thus: Lay out 5 targets; each 2-seater selects one of the 5 randomly as it's assigned target. Every turn that the observer comes within a half-ruler of the target, they can roll a d10 for artillery. First roll is a 10 to hit. Each successive round the difficulty drops by 1. Moving to a new target resets the target # to 10. A disabled observer prevents shelling.
    Points for the mission:
5 - Destroying an assigned target
    3 - Destroying a 2-seater
    2 - Destroying a single-seater
    2 - Destroying a non-assigned target

But I'm still planning to start with a straight-up dogfight; just need to work on getting that started quicker.

FWIW, I'm likely to be eating at Ram's Head beforehand, post if you think you might join me.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow! Except BobP, because he'll never show up...

Sounds like plan. I hope to be there a little before six. Hopefully I'll get there early enough help set up. Looking forward to seeing everybody!

Looks like we may have fewer this time around. Only five affirmatives from facebook thus far.

No balloons? The facebook crowd seemed enthused by the idea of balloons, but whatever.

I'll try getting there by 6. I'll also bring my new smoke and flame markers.

We'll also need to have a second table ready to go for those people who get knocked out right away. As soon as their are two, the can start their own dogfight, and others can join as more get knocked out of sortie one.

As usual, Ross and I will be at Ram's Head for dinner at 5. Anyone who wants is welcome to join us. Look for the two nerds with a box of toy planes flirting with the waitresses.

Which floor? Upper, lower, or Rathskeller?

    Probably first floor or basement.

And it is "snowing". That may slow you guys down a bit.

Sad to say we've had three people drop out at the last minute, so we may be down to about 9 or 10, unless Flammenkopf brings his son, and his son brings some friends. See you all in about an hour and a half.

How did it go guys? I wish I had group like yours around here. If I'm not running a KotA campaign, it's hard for me to get more then 2-3 people to show for a game

Thanks. We're really lucky to live in an area with an extremely high gamer population.

It was fun. Got a chance to meet BobP, though sadly he couldn't hang around to play. Look for more details in the AAR.

I think it's a testament to the large turnout that John's been drumming up that 6 players seems like a quiet night, but I still think it's plenty. Glad to put a face to a name Bob; next time we have to get you to the table!

Speaking of which, next meeting Monday, February 13th @ 6:00!

Check out the after action reports from the last couple of events. Seeing photos of the action will get you motivated to make it out!

    One week (and change) notice!

I'm very excited; I actually have a new plane to show off! If I can get these self-printed decals to work out i might even have a couple more...

And I suppose if no-one comes up with an exciting scenario request I can bring out a balloon this time, since people always seem to be asking for it.

Neat. I look forward to seeing them. With luck I'll have a new plane of three to bring along too.

And I suppose I should try gathering the troops. I'll send out a facebook invite to my gamer and reenactor friends.

Ok, I've invited something like 35 people. Hopefully we'll have another dozen+ player night.

Looking forward to seeing your new planes.

    I'm in for balloon busting.

Had a thought that for a general dogfight it might be interesting to fly squadrons of the same aircraft instead of every pilot having a different type of aircraft. Of course that would mean the various modelers in the group breaking out thier awesome re-paints & models.

Shhh... don't let anyone know, but we don't have any standards.

I hope I can make it. The other day I promised the kids I'd take them to the Lego store, so if traffic is really bad going to and fro I may either be late, or I may not make it at all. But I'll try to be there.

From among my facebook friends I have about five affirmatives, and four maybes. Zach has informed me that his wife is now taking classes on Monday, so he is out, which I guess means Ross is out too. Bummer.

So long as you don't mind getting shot down by Siemens-Schuckert D.IIIs and Fokker D.VIIs...

If I can find time I'd like to have a couple new planes for next month. What should I concentrate on painting? Nieuports? SSW D.IIIs? Seaplanes? Aviatiks?

As for our "Bloody April" game, we should start planning now by making a list of what we have and what we need.

    My guess? Nieuports

  32. #182

    Default

Good guess! I have two that are primed and ready to go. Of course, for six months or more I've had two D.VIIs primed and partially painted.

So... planes for next month's as yet undecided sorties? Planes for April's "Bloody April" sorties? Planes for an upcoming "Fokker Scourge"?

  33. #183

I'd be interested in adding some planes to the effort. Maybe with a deadline i'll get them done! Just let me know what I should concentrate on.

    Default Monday's flight

I had a great time yesterday flying, thanks to everyone organizing. As I mentioned to Chris, I am happy to host games at my house sometime in the future. I live near Glenmont, and looks like many of us live or work in the area.

Another great night last night. Thanks everyone for coming out, and for those who couldn't make it, we'll see you next time:

    Monday, March 12th @ 6:00

P.S. Tusekine, it looks like that B maneuver card is yours; I don't have any Famous Aces decks. I'll try to keep track of it till next time you can make it out.

Did we have a scenario in mind for next week? If I can figure out how I want to mount my Caproni by then we could have that to use, but it's not really much more than your average 2-seater.

As for April, what we primarily need on the German side is more Albatros D.IIIs. I've got the 3 official releases, and 1 repaint. That might do with an average turnout, but one or two more wouldn't hurt. Also, an Alboatros D.II, or some other early-war twin-gunners could be added for variety.

On the allied side I've got a pair of Cigognes in single-gun Nieuports, an RFC tripe, and an Italian SPAD VII; a good enough representation of the better fighters of the day if we ignore some of the roundel colors. But I believe ideally we should shoot for older and more British; if you've got any DH.2s, that would be awesome, or any of the previously mentioned planes in RAF colors. And I haven't even looked, but I'm guessing that RE-8s are appropriate 2-seaters; I've got 2 of those, but one's Belgian.

I'm guessing John has a couple planes to add, and maybe some suggestions as well.

Not that I know of. Dogfight followed by something. We haven't done a bombing mission in awhile.

I have the DH-2 and FE.2b, plus three SPAD VIIs (one Italian, one French, one British). Also the Caudron G.4, which would need to be re-mounted one way or another, though I don't agree with the findings of the committee which made it a small card plane.

I'm not much of a repainter, as you well know, but I could pick up an F-Toy D.III if we needed more. If I'm not mistaken, Paul (aka PRS) actually has the Richthofen D.III.

Now that I think about it, my wife has a Halberstadt that we could borrow. And if we were desperate would could call my Fokker D.II a D.III.

I did 2 & 4, Guynemer & Lemaire. But I used Kibanov models and didn't bother to replace the roundels, so we're not likely to match. I'm sure we'd manage though.

I have the Ferguson & Fry RE 8. Maybe I can find a couple more RE 8's on the web. Also, I can finish up the Bristol Scout I have been working on forever. I'll look into some DH 2s (shapeways I'm guessing?) What maneuver deck do they use? I have an Immelmann booster pack waiting for me at the Family Game Store.

For Monday: Bomber mission sounds good. For the general dogfight it might be interesting to fly squadrons of the same aircraft type. I have 2 Snipes & 2 pfalz DIII's as well as a gaggle of other fighters

  49. #199

    OK, found a couple RE.8s

    Looking into DH.2's

    Looking forward to tomorrow!

I've packed up all of my squadrons, though I can't think of two of them that fit well against each other.

The DH.2 uses either the G or the P deck, depending upon who you listen to; both of them are available in the Immelman booster, and I have 2 of each.
