Default Gritty Goblin Games Wings of War/Glory, 13 June 2024

This month we had five pilots for the first game and four for the second. We flew two missions involving actions between French and German forces.

SPADs vs Albatros & Pfalz AAR#1:

The first game was a straight up shootout with the French forces consisting of Robert aka RJG173 in Fonck’s SPAD XIII which he won in this year’s Doncaster raffle!

Todd aka Pseudotheist was flying in Thaw’s SPAD VII and I was flying my newly painted Turenne’s SPAD VII. Michael aka CaptWillard was flying F-Toy’s Richthofen Albatros D.III with a red tail and Irish John was in newly acquired Pfalz D.III.

Todd’s SPAD and Irish John’s Pfalz got into it straight away with both engulf in smoke with the first exchange.

Unfortunately for the red-tailed Albatros, Robert’s next burst causes major damage. Fortunately we play the boom card at half total damage rounded down.

The second game of the night, Robert was in a French Breguet BR.14 with Todd in an A-firing Nieuport 17 escort. Robert’s mission was to photograph one of three German targets by playing a stall card over the target card. The identity of the target card was known only to the French. Michael was in his F-Toy Albatros D.III with the red tail and I was flying my newly painted Voss Albatros D.III. The Germans simply had to deny the French taking and getting photographs back to their base.

Soon after, Todd’s Nieuport is able to get on the tail of the Capt. Willard’s Albatros and the result is another Boom card for the Captain. Multiple rudder damages restricted my ability to maneuver into a better position. At least that’s my story.

At this point I remarked how the three of us were locked into formation flying, to which Todd replied “Formation flying should not include enemy aircraft in the rear of said formation.”

So another convincing win for the French as my new Albatros succumbs to the curse of first time engagements.

Two fun games! I am thrilled to see the maiden flight of your SPAD VII turn out so successful. I thought all first flights were doomed affairs but you have now given me hope for future new planes.

Great AAR n photos Craig. All first flight planes must have a "ello I'm new here" sign attached to them - a universal curse the world over
