Thread: Fiddlers Green Grumman Wildcat 1/144

Default Fiddlers Green Grumman Wildcat 1/144

The FG Grumman F4F Wildcat resized to 1/144 makes a pretty decent game piece. There was one rather minor issue with the model as published...the wings lack the Wildcat's wing dihedral, but this was not a difficult fix. The finished model's wingspan is about
3.25 inches. A 1/200 version's wingspan would be about an inch less. I don't think I could manage that, but I might go half way between 1/144 and 1/200.

"41F8 aboard CV 6 USS Ranger 1942" Early 1942? Red ball in the star would suggest that.

Excellent job, Larry, well done; my fingertips would be in tatters if I tried anything like that !

Thanks, Mike. This would place this a/c in the Atlantic theater of operations. I was considering an A6M Zero as an opponent. That plan will have to change.

Excellent. 1/144 is a good compromise

    Default 1/172 Grumman Wildcat

Here is a Wildcat I downloaded from Ecard Models. It was published at 1/100 scale. I reduced it to 1/172, which is midway between 1/144 and 1/200. The 1/144 FG Wildcat seems a bit large, but my building skills are not up to 1/200 size. 1/172 size seems just right.

The Ecard model represents the a/c assigned to the U.S.S. Lexington, specifically the Wildcat flown by Lt. Cmdr John Thach.

Cracking job on both. I couldn't even begin to try something like this.
