Thread: FG Voss Fokker F.1 paper model

  1. #1

Default FG Voss Fokker F.1 paper model

The Fiddlers Green models are pretty good. FG has sixteen or so versions of the Fokker Dr.1. The Voss version, though, leaves lots to be desired in terms of coloring. To be fair, at the time this particular tripe was added to the collection, good information may have been difficult to find.

Some of the forum members may have noticed my many inquiries into the colors of Voss's Fokker F.1. Many thanks to the forum for input. I repainted the model, the result can be seen in the photos below. I've reduced the patterns to 1/144 and am about half way through the build. My success at 1/144 scale is only about 50%, so we'll see if it turns out.

The FG model is about 1/45 scale. The Werner Voss figure is 1/32, a bit oversized, ha-ha.

Larry - that’s paper? You did a great job!

Larry, if you did it digitally in a paint program instead of paint on paper, you might reach out to Scott Fyn at FG--unsure if it's still the case, but when his dad Chip ran the show they loved fan-created repaints and sometimes added them to the catalog.

That came up beautifully, Larry, look forward to seeing how it turns out in 1/144 scale.

I think you have captured the essence of the green with the blue mentioned by the Brits very well, Larry. And it is a good thing Voss was not really that large compared to the Fokker as he then would have qualified for superhero ace!

If Voss had been that big I doubt the plane could have lifted them--remember, most early airmen were former horse cavalry, a specialty usually selected for smaller stature much like "Tunnel Rats" in Nam. (Typically in US practice, no taller than 5'6" no heavier than 120lb--or exactly my height and 60% my weight.)

I contacted Scott, initially sent photos. He expressed some interest. I next sent him the pdf file of the repaint. I haven't heard back, but he is travelling, so he may not have had time to get back to me.
