“Schnell Bombers Heading Home”
Jim O’Neill (rhodie80) hosted a WW2 Battle of Britain game, in which I found myself flying for the wrong side! Oh, well – just try your best, Helmut…
4 Spitfires (L), 2 Hurricanes (R), 3 Dornier 17Z bombers, escorted by 2 Bf.109E fighters.
Jim and Karl
Dave Langhurst (Caveman), Glenn Jacobs (Jago85) and Pete (Stumptonian)
The 109s target the two Hurris (me on the extreme right)
Bf.109 “Yellow 6” jinks back to his right, doubling up on Hurricane LE-X and leaving me unengaged (and a bit stranded!) in LE-H
The 4 Spits fan out and meet the bombers head-on.
I’m much too far out, so I commence my tightest Left Turn. The Spits engage the Do.17s, while “Yellow 5” Immelmanns to shadow Hurricane LE-X
1 Spitfire is smoking!
“Yellow 5” turns to go after the Spitfires, while the two Hurricanes get into position for a flanking attack on the bombers.
I’m almost there…! “Yellow 5” tangles with FIVE R.A.F. fighters! Shooting down one Spitfire in flames…
…then performing an Immelmann reverse to come back for more, but by now trailing smoke.
The Greater-Crested Marritt in full plumage!
The next few photos record my most outrageous, most spectacular rampage EVER…
Move, shoot, one Do.17 down! (Kill #1)
Move again, shoot again, second Do.17 down!!! (Kill #2)
Move a third time, shoot a third time, third Do.17 shot down!!!!!! (Kill #3)
3 cards, 3 moves, 3 shots, 3 kills – “ooooh, what a RUSH!!!” All three were technically shared kills, but I’m not going to let that take any of the shine off it!
Now the bombers are all fragged, the two 109s are left chasing the six R.A.F. fighters (including one respawn) having both shed their smoke! (I’m the card).
Three respawned Dorniers arrive, so the “Few” break, some performing Immelmann turns to meet them.
The Messerschmitts chase the R.A.F.
…setting one Spitfire ablaze, and downing another!
Then “Yellow 6” targets a by-now-overconfident me…
…and down I go! (Kills 3, Shot Down 1)
My “BOOM” chit (House Ruled @ half damage, = 9) was the very first long-range shot from the very first Do.17Z I engaged! Now, another 8 points of pain are enough to drop me.
Bf.109 “Yellow 6” now falls to the respawn Spitfire, and all remaining fighters make a bee-line for the new Dorniers.
My new respawn Hurricane arrives Stage Right, and I begin setting up another beam attack.
A new “Yellow 6” arrives to throw a spanner in the works!
The Spitfires collectively dispose of “Yellow 5”.
The new “Yellow 6” overlaps in his attack on the lone Spitfire.
I overshoot the flanking Dornier, but get to paste the leader at close range.
Lotsa ‘Dromers – John Seitz, Bobsalt, Paul Armborst, Caveman, Glenn, Pete, (unknown), Jim and Karl.
I’m now overlapping the lead Dornier, and I’m just out of arc to join in the .303-fest afflicting (and trashing) the right-hand German bomber.
Now the left-hand flank Dornier is gunned down just behind me (my card is still under the leading Dornier’s base).
Down goes the last bomber – my contribution being a collision with him! (Kills 4, Shot Down 1).
MY ORIGINS SCORECARD
A wildly enjoyable game - very many thanks to all involved!
