Default The Wright Flight June 10, 2023 in Dayton Ohio

Another outing for the Wright Flight in Dayton Ohio. With vacations and Origins coming up, attendance was lower than normal. We had 6 pilots take to the air. We did some Lafayette Escadrille versus German. Early war Nieuport 11 and Nieuport 16 versus an Albatros C.III two seater, and a plethora of German Mono planes. One Halberstadt D.III made an appearance as well.

Rules: We played half damage you have to flee the battle and return to base. Random plane placement to start the game.

    Mission: German Observation Mission.

Here are the brave Lafayette flyers returning from a patrol.

Looking through my notes, looks like I did not take a picture of one of the N11 retreating from damage.

    Germans: Accomplished Mission
    Two planes retreat/fly off board
    Two planes shot down

Lafayette Escadrille: Did not stop observation plane
    One plane retreat off board

I think I would call this a tie game. The Germans obtained their objective, but they had much higher losses.

What looks like another very enjoyable sortie for the Wright Flight.
    Thanks for the coverage Dan.

That Deep Cut Studio mat does make the planes stand out a bit more with its muted color! Great time playing with a smaller group, and having flown the Alb C.III to a successful mission, then flying the Halberstadt later and only taking two damage points, I would say I had a good day. But redcoon stole the show with the Chapman N.11!

Players were camelbeagle, old guy, redcoon, jaycrf450, pfalz und roland, and Mike, who is not a 'Drome member.

I had to laugh when the two-seater flew right through the formation and the Escadrille had to turn and chase.

Some skillful flying by the Albatros player.

Nice AAR Dan. Just my luck to be the Eindecker pilot to draw two pilot wounds in the same draw

Hey there! Bill is posting once again! And I have never seen that happen on the same draw before.

Hi Bill! Glad to see you online! I have seen the double pilot hit a couple of times. Not a common occurrence!

You're not alone, Bill, its cropped up in our group a couple of times recently, even from two different decks !

Well Flash it was my fault, I should have know better then to take up a brand new plane on it's first mission. I should have asked Daryl or Dan to use it first

Hate to burst that balloon, but the Albatros and both of my Nieuport 11s were first time flyers and seemed to do well.

Yes,Daryl...you flew very well...(with both planes) it was a fine scenario...made more interesting by the home-rule of exiting with half damage coupled with the random starting locations...some discussion also regarding future scenarios laying out multiple potential targets for recon to increase the mystery and provide more realistic responses from all combatants. I especially enjoyed the pace of the game using the early war planes...the zoom and boom of later war planes is vastly different. One aspect that doesn't show in the photos is the use of altitude...it played critical roles throughout the day...both in escaping and in getting hunted down...very fun day, indeed!
