Thread: Dom's Decals

    Default Dom's Decals

Trying to sort through the various posts here, and getting lost in the mire...while the Dom's Decals website is still alive, actually getting orders is not happening, correct? He has two sheets ideal for a couple of projects, but I do not want to order only for the order to never be fulfilled.

Apologies in advance if this is a touchy subject

    TIA

I'm wondering how Dom's decals and Minimisc decals differ from home made inkjet printed decals?

I guess his printer can print white

The Misc Minis are the entire sheet is the decal, so one has to trim decently close to each individual roundel, cross, or marking.

Decal paper comes in white as well as clear.

Dom was using an ALPS micro-dry printer, which can print white.

Sure. Try to cut out white numbers in 1/200 on white decal paper, then you' ll see the problem ;-)

You can try posting in the classifieds so see if anyone has the sheets you are looking for. Sometimes you can get a hit.

Dom, alas, no longer replies to any emails, and never answers the phone.

Lots of folks have sent money, and received nothing.

I championed and supported him on here for years, but can no longer do so.

Every year, on the Anniversary of my last order (£20, which I lost for no return) I send him a "Reminder" email - he has never responded.
I know he gets them, because I use a different "home" email address each time, to avoid blocks.

    VERY disappointing.

Some of the differences between homemade inkjet and miscmini decals.

I use an Oki C942 Laser printer as opposed to an inkjet printer. I do not need to apply a fixative to the decal after printing. All of the inkjet decals I've seen need a fixative applied after printing or the ink will run once the decal hits water.

The Oki C942 prints White, Black, Magenta, Yellow and Cyan. I've not seen an inkjet printer that will print white.

Homemade decals are limited only by one's imagination. With miscmini decals, one's limited to what's available in the store.

To make inkjet decals opaque, one must either print on white transfer paper or apply the transfer to a white/light colored surface. The challenge there is cutting around or covering any white transfer film that is not part of the image. I've tried cutting around the transfer, painting around the desired image, and trying to print a color that matches the model. Success there really depends on how much time you want to spend on matching colors, painting, or cutting.
