NEW ATTEMPT FOR AN AVIATIK

After a first unsuccessful attempt (Secret mission for a lone Aviatik), the players are switched for a new landing attempt behind the enemy lines on a position known only to an Austro-Hungarian Aviatik D.I fighter (operated this time by Monse), facing two Italian Hanriot HD.1 and Nieuport 11 fighters, as well as 3 anti-aircraft machine guns (Antsaintex at the controls).

All three fighters inflict A damage.
Cloud cover extends to altitude 3.
Aircraft start at altitude 2.
The game is played on two game mats.



1. The Aviatik avoids enemy fighters thanks to the cloud cover but is unsuccessfully targeted by an anti-aircraft machine-gun.



2. The Aviatik manages to decoy the Italian fighters and lands close to its intended target.





3-4. During the ground maneuver phase, the descending Nieuport and then the Hanriot fire successfully at the Aviatik (5 + 4 damage points + smoke damage).



5. The Aviatik escapes a shot from the Nieuport.





6-7. The Aviatik again maneuvers on the ground to decoy its opponents, but is hit again by the Italians (1 + 1 points + damage to the right rudder).



8. Consecutive shot from the Hanriot on the Aviatik (2 points) during its take-off sequence.



9. The Aviatik escapes another shot from the Hanriot during the delicate final take-off phase.



10. The Aviatik jams while firing at the Nieuport from a higher altitude (3 points).



11. Despite several evasive maneuvers, the Aviatik (1 point) is eliminated by the Hanriot after a relentless pursuit.


Conclusion : the first objective is achieved for the Austro-Hungarian camp, which nevertheless loses its fighter.
The Nieuport suffered 3 points of damage, while the Hanriot remained intact.

Devilish that Austrian and his aviatik. A masterly spy drop, a shrewd take-off, alas dearly paid for, and an unexpected return route almost led him to complete victory. However, an unfortunate manoeuvre just before setting sail led to the tragic end of his mission. The perseverance and belated foresight of his direct pursuer proved the undoing of this highly efficient man-machine pairing. Thank you for a confusing but enjoyable game.
