Thread: Farman HF-20 et HF-21

    Default Farman HF-20 et HF-21

    hello all
I am making two Belgian Farman HF-20 and HF-21.
The 21 is wider and therefore has a medium card.
Do the characteristics remain the same?

    [Base size[/u]
The limits used for the different base sizes (small - medium - large) are determined by the wingspan.

In the WW2 version, compared to previously released miniatures :
    - the limit between small base and medium base is between the wingspan of the Aichi Val (14.37 m) and the Messerschmitt Bf.110 (16.3 m).
    - the limit between medium and large base is fixed precisely for a wingspan bigger than 18 m : Dornier Do.17 (18 m) and Junkers Ju.88 version A-1 (18.37 m).

In WW1 version, the difference between the sizes of the bases is less precise compared to the wingspans of the figures already published.
    - the limit between small and medium base is between the Breguet 14 (14.36 m) and the Caproni Ca.3 (22.2 m).

The unofficial Aircraft cards created by members of the Aerodrome would allow to locate the limit between small and medium base for a 17 m wingspan.
    Small base : Farman MF.11 Shorthorn (16,13 m)
    Medium base : Farman F.40 (17,62 m) - AEG G.IV (18,4 m) - Short 184 (19,36 m)

So the Farman HF.21 (wingspan of 16.1 m) should logically have a small base, like the MF.11.
Just like the Farman HF.20 (13.65 m) from which the HF.21 is derived.

    Performances
max speed (km/h) - engine power (hp) - full load weight (kg)
    Farman HF.20 : 105 - 80 - 660 (on wiki, the speed of 165 km/h is wrong)
    Farman HF.21 : 100 - 80 - ?
    Farman MF.11 : 106 - 101 - 928
    Farman F.40 : 135 - 135 - 1120

Wings of Linen shows the following characteristics: maneuver - damage - strength - max altitude - rate of climb.
    Farman HF.20 : XC - B - 10 - 6 - 8
    Farman MF.11 : XC - B - 9 - 9 - 7
    Farman F.40 : XB - B - 11 - 10 - 7

Since the HF.20 and HF.21 have the same motorization but the HF.21 has a larger wingspan, one could attribute to the Farman HF.21 XA maneuvers (slower than the XC), to reflect more limited performances because of its large wingspan.
Anyway, the XC maneuvers seem too fast for the HF.20 and MF.11, knowing that the XC is officially attributed to the Felixstowe F.2 whose top speed is 153 km/h.
