Thread: May 2023 Workbench

  1. #1

    Default May 2023 Workbench

I'm showing the Legion Condor a bit of love this month. Here's my Heinkel 59 and a brace of Heinkel 112s.

All are printed from Planeprinter files, and I've tried Takara paints (Spanish Civil War set) for the first time, which I found to be excellent. Decals are from Kevin at Misc Minis.

I've also got 4 Bf109Ds and 4 Bf 109Es painted and gloss varnished, just waiting for Kevin to resume sales to overseas punters.

These will be the grand prize at Origins for the Harry P. Materne III (Matt) memorial tournament I'm proud to say. As a late-arrival to the forum, I never knew Matt - a missed opportunity I'm sure, but his contributions still benefit us all.

Stored in a customized Burning Drachens box; custom Litko bases under the foam, telescoping magnet tools on the edge. I'm waiting for a shapeways order for RAF drachen baskets if they arrive in time.

Actually I haven't Mike, not worked out the stats yet. Did you have that drawn already or are you just super-quick at producing these?

    Chris, those Drachens look magnificent!

    I don't have any Drachens.....

I'll have to factor in enough space in my return luggage from Origins to include those two!

I'm stunned you don't have any drachen - have you looked under that mountain of custom planes?
I've ordered 3 more from Dave at AIM so maybe I'll get time to do another pair - I suspect we could work out a trade in case you draw a BOOM card in the tourney

Mike, thanks for those awesome balloon cards! I have some spares and can print and add these to the box

Would you change the brown/green one to a British roundel? Technically both can be used for either side but may as well have one of each if it's not too much trouble. If not, no worries!

Started working on the line drawing, and the colour scheme. I looked back at the images for reference, and noticed who actually posted the images. Oops! Stopped work and posted what I had.

Now complete with all the shadows.

First Balloon card reposted with RFC Roundel. See above.

Hmmm... Do we want the "Harry P. Materne III (Matt) Memorial Tournament" on these? Or replace the Origins logo? Too cluttered?

How 'bout that? You were right! I do indeed have at least one 3D printed Drachen, bought from ebay over a year ago.

    I wonder where I put it/them?
Probably under a pile of planes, as you suggested!

Might be blurred due to too much cognac, but the work you have done on those fuselages looks spectacular.

I often think, "I should take an hour and clean up this mess," but that's an hour lost for painting.

I work the same way but at some point you have to spend the hour or you cannot paint. I've gotten down to about 10 sq inches of free space....past time to clean the desk!

I'll agree with this also; I actually moved to a new table in what was the sewing room, after I lost Dorothy, as it had better natural light.
And not only do I have barely any space to paint now, but I can barely get to the table
After Origins, a major clean and sort is in order

My table also resembles that Chris.

My table now has about 4 months of dust on it

I REALLY must find time to finish the half dozen half-complete minis hiding under that dust...

I find that it is the round craft knives that usually end up stuck in my floor Tim. I now keep them in the indented channel of my steel ruler.
