I saw one of these at Hendon back in 2014. Odd looking plane!

The Lysander is an odd looking plane, but it had characteristics that made it invaluable for certain missions. It was outstanding at short landings and take-offs, making dropping off and picking up passengers and fragile packages possible in very resticted fields. So, spys and resistance fighters, as well as recovering downed pilots was some of the missions the plane performed in WWII.

The Lysander wouldn't be much in combat, but an escort mission would certainly work.

I put the Lysander in the same category as the Ju.87. Very distictive looking, because it had a very specific mission to perform.
