Thread: Nieuport 17

    Default Nieuport 17

Unfortunately I can't paint, so I have nothing to show.

However here is a Nieuport 17 with a fun paint I'd really like to fly in WoG some day :

Maurice Boyau was the 5th best French WWI Ace, captain of the French rugby team and obviously had a great sense of humor (also known as being a nice guy).

I'm sure one of the clever chaps here will make a decal of that - I can think of one in the US who would love that on a machine.

N77 had a few very interesting personal plane schemes. That one is a fun one.

    Indeed.
I am sure you know the B&W pictures and paint schemes at the end of this page about the N77/SPA77 squadron:

Yes. I'm on that site every week. It is fantastic.

That is a really nice site. Lots of good info. The creator has really done some major research.

You most likely also know this website focused on the 184 WWI Aces of the French army. It provides for each of these pilots a biography (text and video in French) but also all the paint schemes of all their known planes, the detailed record of all their victories and claims (dates, planes involved, squadrons...), etc. :

Any idea whether the same dog motif is on the other side of the plane?

Oooooh - my Spidey-Sense tells me a doggy Nieuport might be on the cards....

My guess would be yes, as other N17 from the same unit has photo evidence of other planes with personal emblems on both sides. But, for this particular plane I have not seen a reverse side photo.

Indeed. For exemple, the pics of the Nieuport with a snake/dragon.

I haven’t found anything new on the topic.

(…except that there were 2 dogs in the N77 squadron which is not an evidence, just an anecdocte : http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escad...oto_Groupe.jpg)

I know the Paddinghaus 1/72 decal set has decals for the dog on both sides of the plane.

Don't know where their info came from. But it may be worth taking a gander at.

That would be a neat plane to put on the table!
