Default Fictional - 2 seater stoush

I thought it would be nice to do something different last night so we matched a Douglas A-24B Banshee (Ruet) against the Yokosuka D4Y3 Susei (Kokatai 601). I flew the Japanese plane and it used A guns front and rear. Doug (aka Windy Jack) naturally flew the Douglas which uses A guns at the rear and B guns forward. I thought the planes were evenly matched. The Douglas had heavier armament, but the Susei is a lot faster.

In a fast-paced game the Japanese plane suffered 8 damage points from frontal encounters with the Douglas which was not good for the sons of Nippon. Most other firing saw an even number of A counters dished out to both sides. The Japanese plane failed to gain any advantage from his speed, but the Douglas did use superior maneuverability and tactics to get a couple of unanswered hits on his opponent.

At the end of the game the honorable Japanese went down.

Not familiar with WW2 planes but not surprised that maneuverability beat speed. Also really like your game mat

Nice 2 seater action. I usually prefer the slower plane as it will have tighter turns. The faster plane will have difficulty getting in an unreturned shot.

I second the nice mat comment. Where did you get it?

    Interesting scenario.

This french Douglas A-24B Banshee and the Japanese Yokosuka D4Y3 may never have faced each other, but little-known battles took place between French and Japanese aircraft.

In September 1940, Japanese troops in China crossed the Indochinese border, supported by Nakajima Ki.27 fighters and Kawasaki Ki.48 bombers, which attacked French bases (belonging to the collaborationist regime of Vichy) and fought Morane-Saulnier 406, Potez 25 and 631 from 22 to 26 September. Two Potez 25 were destroyed and one Ki.48 was shot down.

In November 1942, three Morane-Saulnier 406 were shot down mistakenly by Japanese Ki.27 aircraft while attempting to oppose an American raid.

At the beginning of 1945, Indochina was likely to join the Allied camp. During the Japanese coup of March 9, 1945 against the French in Indochina, two Potez 25 were the only French aircraft to intervene during the fighting and managed to escape to Dien Bien Phu and China.
