For this game, there was no mission as such, just the Rumpler C-IV and Pfalz D-III verses the Sopwith Camel. The Camel has superior maneuverability, but we felt is still at a disadvantage, so we gave the Camel the Lucky Pilot card and the Bullet Checker status. The Rumpler was given the Rookie Pilot and Rookie Observer. The Pfalz was given the Aerobatic Pilot status. We played this senario three times. Each game ended differently. Janet is managing the Rumpler and the Pfalz. I am handling the Camel.
The set up. The Camel, with the sun at its back, manages to sneak up behind the Rumpler and its escort figther.
The Camel starts the game with a free shot.
The Rumpler breaks right. The Pfalz sideslips left. The Camel banks left and fires on the Pfalz. The Camel takes fire from the Rumpler's observer.
The Rumpler flies away from the action, and the Camel maneuvers to get behind the Pfalz.
The Camel fires but misses.
A/C turning
The Camel fires on the Rumpler which erupts in flames.
THe Rumpler sideslips left, its observer fires on the Camel but misses. The Rumpler draws a damage card "0"
The Rumpler draws a damage card "0" again. The Camel banks hard right and fires on the Rumpler which draws A-damage 2
The Rumpler draws damage "4". Its observer again engages the Camel which draws B-damage "2". The Camel simultaneously banks hard right to fire on the Pfalz which draws a "3" damage card
Each aircraft flies out of gun range
The Camel executes and Immelmann turn
The Pfalz also reverses to fire on the Camel. The Pfalz guns jam. Simultaneously, the Camel and Rumpler exchange close range fire. The Rumpler draws the BOOM card!!
With the Rumpler out of the fight, the Pfalz and Camel maneuver for better positions. The Pfalz clears its gun jam....
....and fires but misses
a fly by
The Pfalz executes and Immelmann turn, fires on the Camel, but misses
the two planes jockey for position
The Pfalz executes an Immelmann turn and fires, its guns jamming again
Close maneuvering....too close to shoot
Here I am expecting the Pfalz to break left, but Janet fools me
Maneuvering for position
An exchange of fire. The Camel draws damage "5", the Pfalz draws damage "2" plus a jammed rudder
The Pfalz reverses and fires on the Camel
The Pfalz fires again. The Camel draws a damage "5" card again! I'm done, unless....
...I play the Lucky Pilot card!
But my luck runs out as I take further fire from the Pfalz and draw a damage "2"
And I'm down!
The final damage count for the two fighters
I have to say that Janet was able to anticipate my moves. She proved unpredictable while at the same time out maneuvered me.
