Cold Wars - The Martians Have Landed!
Aircraft altitude is marked with ‘A’ while climb counters are ‘C’ on the planes bases. The trees on the mat are as tall as level one plus climb counters. Trees will trip up tripods if over half the base is in the trees and aircraft at level 1 will take a ‘C’ damage if their peg flies into or over them.
This game put on by Mike Jacobs starts with the initial Martian landing force clearing out the city on the coast. Bob,(BobP) John,(crashalot) and I,(Teaticket) were the Martians heading inland toward the newest landing cylinders. Once there we were to help deploy the reinforcements and head deeper inland in scenario 2.
Bob and I drove Squids while John had a Locust. Against us were 6 aircraft piloted by mere humans, 3 Nieuports and 3 SPAD VIIs.
The beachhead was a hive of activity. We three were ordered to leave the coast and find and secure the new landing sites.
First contact. My Squid is the one lower center, John and Bob to the right.
Bob leads the way! Running ahead of John and I to hopefully draw some of the human air-machines away.
I do my best to keep my unshielded side hidden from the human machine guns.
John and Bob head up the middle while I go left. If the Humans concentrate on Bob and John I will have an easy run to a landing site. If they send some air-machines my way then it will be easier for Bob and John. That’s the plan anyway.
John gets his shield facing the oncoming Nieuport. The humans were easily fooled and they have all of their forces defending the valley in the center.
John’s heat ray takes down a Nieuport air-machine! Ak ak ak ak!
A couple of human air-machines don’t like my running alone and head to trap me between the woods and board edge.
Bob’s Scarab was hit hard through the shield free side and was destroyed! A new Scarab emerges from the landing site.
The SPAD air-machine making a bee line for me is easily smoked by our foul Martian gas.
John laughs off the puny attack against his shielded side but it does force him to turn away from our objective.
A human air-machine heads towards our landing pod and Bob scurries out of its firing arc.
John is harassed by a pair of human air-machiness. Energy getting low!
The human after me can just fly back and forth, Immelmanning over and over to force me to dance to keep my shields facing him. It slows me down from getting to the objective but I advance when I can.
Bob takes a Boom through his non-shielded side! Ak ak ak ak!!!
I spew out more smoke into the annoying human’s path.
The main Martian force advances!
The human pilots were not happy to see this but it was not part of the game, just for show. A Martian morale boost for sure! Ak ak ak ak ak ak!!!!!!
I blast an oncoming air-machine and set it on fire! Ak ak ak!!!
The pesky humans take down our hero John, AK!
The burning air-machine pilot loses control and flies into the tree tops which grab his plane and rip it apart.
With the help of John and Bob I reached the objective landing pod and help free the reinforcing Martians for the next phase of our attack.
Ak ak ak ak!
