Cold Wars 2023 Game #2 Jumping the Jumpers
This mission has 3 French bombers returning from their drop. Jasta 11 is up and ready to pounce when a flight of Escadrille N94 Nieuport 24s jump them.
I was a bit busy and distracted (again) starting the game and didn’t take any photos until the first French bomber went down.
Chuck, flying Konstantin Krefft’s Albatros D.III gets in the kill shot on a Farman 40.
With a N24 on their tails a pair of D.IIIs head for the clouds.
The Baron (crashalot) and Georg Simon (Chuck) cautiously approach a Caudron G.4.
Kreft and Schafer (Chuck) are harassed by N24 #3 piloted by Giacomo.
All the scouts are flying every which way looking for a target.
The slow Caudrons get off a couple of easy shots at the Hun aircraft flying right above them.
Oh Oh! The Baron is on fire with jammed guns!
Georg Simon’s D.III smokes, the Baron burns and the French Caudrons fly on.
The Baron keeps in the Caudron’s blind spot while his fire slowly burns itself out.
The slow Caudron is so slow the Baron has trouble getting it in his sights and flies ahead of his would be prey.
The 2nd Caudron is drawing a lot more attention than it wants as 3 Hun Albatros hunt it down.
The slowness of the Caudrons works to their advantage as the Hun can’t slow down enough and fly past or overlap.
The lead Caudron can see friendly lines ahead (the edge of the mat) and has hope they will make it home.
The Baron has to turn away from the lead Caudron so he can make another run at it.
The trailing Caudron (the card) is not having it easy with three Hun after it. Why are the escorting N24s not helping out?
The trailing Caudron heads for the cloud for safety while the scouts buzz around.
The Baron gets the G.4 lines up again.
The Baron (crashalot – Mad Genius) feels good about closing in on the Caudron.
Crazy time in the sky above France.
The Baron miss calculated and turns away from his target. Lucky for him he is in the Caudron’s blind spot.
The trailing Caudron loses his pursuers as he hides in the clouds.
The Baron gets back on track as his Caudron nears escape’
One Caudron hiding in the clouds, one eyeing its escape with frustrated scouts mulling about.
The Baron laughs as the C.4s rear gun jams.
With the Hun chasing the escaping G.4 the Nieuports get in a few easy shots at their tails.
The Baron lines up his hopeful kill shot.
Look who’s laughing now!
The lead Caudron escapes and the second has a clear way ahead with the Hun out of place battling the Nieuports and chasing the lead G.4.
It would be close if the last Caudron could get off but it was so badly shot up, any damage would down it. The French only got 1 out of 3 bombers away so the Baron ands his boys can claim a win.
