Cold Wars 2023 Game #2 Jumping the Jumpers
This mission has 3 French bombers returning from their drop. Jasta 11 is up and ready to pounce when a flight of Escadrille N94 Nieuport 24s jump them.

I was a bit busy and distracted (again) starting the game and didn’t take any photos until the first French bomber went down.

Chuck, flying Konstantin Krefft’s Albatros D.III gets in the kill shot on a Farman 40.

It would be close if the last Caudron could get off but it was so badly shot up, any damage would down it. The French only got 1 out of 3 bombers away so the Baron ands his boys can claim a win.

"Where are the Nieuports" was for our Thursday night group. We seem to have a tendancy of not really protecting the planes we are supposed to escort!

It is not as easy as it sounds when you don't know what the movements of the plane you are escorting will be. I know in various games where I have been escort I have tried very hard to stay with the main plane and protect it. It goes well until that plane turns in a direction I didn't predict, and it is left unprotected and my plane is out on its own. It can take quite a few manoeuvres to get back in touch with the main plane.

Yes, agreed. Also our games have the problem of table size. Our inteceptors are already in attack range when the escort gets their chance to fight them.

This was a historical problem too. As both sides found out, close escort of bombers generally didn't work, as it ceded initiative to the interceptors.
However, the lack of a speed difference, with our area of play, doesn't allow the attackers more than 1 pass at the bombers.

So, two of the bombers "Caud-run" for it, but for the other one it was a step too "Far, man"!

Ouch. Tim, I thought you were a healer, not a source of pain?
