Last night only 2 of our 4 regular flyers were available, one (Gary) on R & R and the other (Mark) in the sick bay.
I had planned a scenario involving the Staaken on automatic being harassed by a Bristol fighter, a 1 1/2 Strutter comic and a Camel. Given there were only 2 of us, we added a Pup into the mix. I didn’t take any photos during the evening but after the dust had settled on the (eventually) downed Staaken, Doug and I were discussing the relative speeds of the combatants and decided to conduct a small experiment. We lined up all the aircraft, played 2 straights and evaluated the result.
I’m sure others have done the same but, for those who haven’t, here is the result:
I did a bit of measuring and the result was that the Camel and the Bristol fighter were level, the Staaken was 50mm behind, the Strutter was 30mm behind the line and the Pup 25 mm behind.
