Default My 1/144 scale plane adventures!

    Hello friends!

EDIT: I decided to just make this post about my adventures of getting 1/144 scaled airplanes and customizing them for Wings of Glory! I hope you will enjoy and post below!

I’ve been way for quite a while with work and family obligations. I’m sure you all know how that goes! My son and I were feeling the itch to get back into Wings of Glory! We had a couple quick questions!

Any recommendations for 1/144 scale World War 2 planes? Which companies in 2022 (soon to be 2023!) are still producing WW2 planes in the 1/144 scale? I live in the USA if that helps at all. Are there any companies that won’t break the bank for WW2 in 1/144? Educate me please, I’m no expert!

My son and I were going to try and get a few planes in this scale and have some fun over the next few months!

    Thank you for your suggestions!

I spent a full week google searching and actually did not find a ton of good up to date info on what 1/144 scale WW1 and WW2 planes are being produced currently. A lot of the info seemed to be 5 or 10 years old.

So what I decided to do was just use eBay and a webpage called “radjapan.ocnk(dotnet)/phone (https://radjapan.ocnk.net/phone/)” to order some WW1 and WW2 preprinted planes. Here is what I ordered and where I ordered from is directly below it. I’m guessing since I’m in the US these will take 2 to 3 months to arrive from Japan. Not sure but I’m trying. Here’s my order so far:

    USA:

    1.) 1/144 P-51D Mustang #5

    radjapan.ocnk(dotnet)/phone (https://radjapan.ocnk.net/phone/)

    2.) 1/144 P-51D Mustang #6

    radjapan.ocnk(dotnet)/phone (https://radjapan.ocnk.net/phone/)

    German:

    1.) 1/144 Takara Lufwaffer Vol.1 Fw190 D-9 2/JG6 #5

    radjapan.ocnk(dotnet)/phone (https://radjapan.ocnk.net/phone/)

    2.) 1/144 WKC VS15 Bf109E-4

    radjapan.ocnk(dotnet)/phone (https://radjapan.ocnk.net/phone/)

    3.) F-Toys 1/144 scale WING KIT WKC VS8 Messerschmitt Bf110G-2 #2A

    ebay

    Great Britain:

    1.) 1/144 WKC VS15 Spitfire Mk.IIb #1C

    radjapan.ocnk(dotnet)/phone (https://radjapan.ocnk.net/phone/)

2.) 21st Century Spitfire MK. VIII / IX 1:144 Classic Aircraft

    eBay

    Japan:

1.) 21st Century Toys Classic Aircraft Series Nakajima KI-84 1:144Hayate Fighter NIB

    eBay

    AND for my WW1 order:

    GREAT BRITAIN RAF

    1.) F-toys 1:144 WWI UK RAF 23rd FS SPAD S.VII Biplane Fighter kit 3B

    eBay

    GERMAN:

    1.) F-toys 1:144 WWI German Biplane Albatros D.III fighter aircraft #4A

    eBay

That’s the latest. I’ve ordered the ball bearings as well. So hopefully by Feb/March I’ll be customizing the bases and fighting some battles!!

Annnnnnd of course. Sigh. I placed an order from Japan. After I placed the order and it shipped, I THEN found an F-Toys dealer in the USA.

Isn’t that how it always works!

    Hey gang,

Okay some of the planes I ordered have started to arrive. These 1/144 scale Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate planes arrived in the mail. The company that made these scaled planes is 21st Century Toys.

Here is a photo of the two that came in the mail!

I also think the detailing on these is lovely. Especially for the price. These were only $20 dollars total for two planes. Not bad!

In anticipation of the release of the WW2 WoW I bought some of the Atlas range of 1/144 model bombers for the Battle of Britain, which are excellent and still reasonably priced, so I'd suggest you look out for those, Chuck.
I was so disappointed when Nexus released the system in 1/200 that I never got into it in any serious way. I bought a WoG BoB set a couple of years ago because it was really cheap but haven't ever used it.

Thank you Dave! I will check out the Atlas range. I had not heard of them. I love these F-Toys brand planes a lot. My only complaint about them is they are fragile. And I have kids!

I don't know how much a painter you are, but you can checkout Shapeways. I know there are 1/144th WW2 there, but I don't know pricing.

I wonder what was Nexus rationale for 1/200. Costs? Box size?

Box size. They had to fit into the same boxes as the 1/144th scale WW1 planes.
Also (probably) the reason for the squished down Tripehound.

I was told that it was the card size needed for the speed of the WW2 aircraft.

Maybe both, though if they made 1/144th scale planes, the box would be bigger, no?

Greetings gang! Happy 4th of July!

I was purchasing only preprinted 1/144 planes and was excited to get these in:

BUT when I opened them, they are unpainted. Ugh. My hands shake too badly to paint them. Darn it!

    Frustrating.

Concur with Chris' recommendation above and they are reasonably priced, IMHO.
