...Does this ever happen to you?

All to frequently, Richard, last week I survived two manoeuvres from initial contact and we play booms as half damage ! I got 2RRD from the first shot; a Boom & another 2 at +1 (12) for the second; then a 3wnd from a second machine that put me down.. Oh, and my guns jammed.! I was using a Pfalz D.IIIa

Any time a mechanic uses 'random' outcomes for results, weird events are possible.

Things like a friend cutting the damage deck to avoid the Boom card, and drawing the Boom card anyway, are amusing, if tragic. Having a pilot race head-on into an encounter, thinking 20mm cannons would outgun .303 cal MGs, but drawing two pilot wounds for the close range damage, was also worth a laugh. The target plane drawing all '0's, was just salt in the wound.
