Thread: December 2022 Workbench

    Default December 2022 Workbench

Perhaps this thread should be titled "Getting back on the horse", as this is the first aircraft I've painted in nearly 2 years. It's a Kyushu J7W Shinden.

The model is a 3D print from a Roman Troyan (aka Plane Printer/Kampfflieger) file, using Misc Mini decals. The unit is representational, as only 2 prototypes were built.

I remember building a 1/72 model of this back in the mid-sixties! From memory, the name means ‘lightning’.

Thanks Mike (and everybody else for their comments). Might not have painted anything with wings, but in that time I have managed a Soviet Cold War army, two new factions for Saga, and about 200 AWI figures.

Edit: Thanks also for the rep.

Added these to my Russian Air Svc. Three Vickers FK 19's. I saw the color plate in an Osprey book so here they are.

Excellent Kyushu Steve. You now have one of the two made.

Neat addition to your Russian force Bob.

According to Wings of Linen, these FB 19s are either from Columbia Aerodrome, or Kampfleiger.
So how many books are in your personal library?

Sorry I gave the wrong credit for the planes. They are Kampfleiger models, check my order. I just received 2 planes that are Columbia Aerodrome planes. Starting to paint them.

Vickers F.B. 19 Bullit. In Russian service, with a 130-hp Clerget engine (maximum speed of around 200*km/h)? Do we have stats for this?

According to the Wings of Linen wiki, J maneuver deck, B damage deck, 15 resistance points.

Hmmm... Stats on Wings of Linen are for the 100/110-hp engine. If a 130-hp engine gave it better speed than a SPAD VII, that would be better than the 'B' deck?

B deck covers speed brackets of 181-200kph so would be right for both types; the manoeuvres of B & J are the same, just at different speeds.
Past that you'd be looking to the A deck which would likely be unrealistic for the Vickers.

I don't know Tim, maybe it should be posted on the Anchorage as there are likely to be 'snails' in the game.

Is this colour scheme unique? I can't find a Catalina with fighter green/brown camo. I can only find green/grey (slate gray/extra dark sea gray)?

It was unique to Ozzie Catalinas in early 1942. Here is an interesting article that sheds some light:

    Very cool FOX.
That Catalina must be pretty big. I remember I had a SPAD in 1/32 (I think) and it was big.
Great work all and thanks for the positive statements. Nothing special with what I do.

Yep, the wingspan is 670mm which is a touch over 2 feet I think.

It was too big for my spray booth so I had to spray it in front of the booth, depend on the extractor fan do do it’s thing and wear a mask.

Why not spray outside. It's summer down under, no?

That’s exactly what I ended up doing but it’s been a pretty funny start to summer - not a day over 31 as yet whereas in past years we’ve had averages well over 30 with a run of over 40 now and again. Tip-dry starts to become an issue then!

    Epic underwater adventures.
With a bestiary rarely involved in the aerial parts (except King Kong and a pterodactyl).
