Default Fall In 2022 - Game 4 - Planes, Trains and No Automobiles

Game 4 – Planes, Trains and NO Automobiles

My fourth and final Wings game I ran at Fall In has a French bomber force sent to stop a German train carrying something secret to the front. The French have intel on where and when the train will pass but when they arrive, they are met by not one, not two, but three trains passing through the area. Which train has the secret cargo? (flatcars on the train carry a ‘B’ firing AA machine gun.)

You will occasionally see train cars off to the side of the tracks. I use a train card for the train position with the train model on another card positioned on top of that. When planes overlap the train model, is removed and the card left in position so the plane can fly on.

8 pilots flew in this scenario with French bombers piloted by (2) Kris, (4) Mike, (6) Scott and (8) Angelo, and the German air escort, (1) Aiden Hell Spawn, (3) Ally, (5) Jeff and (7) Rob.

As the French Breguets gain visual contact with the train they are met by a flight of Fokker D.VIIs

    What's that? A second train?

The first Breguet overshot and held on to its bombs. AA fire from the train is accurate and sets the flight leader on fire,

The Fokkers give chase, hoping to keep the French bombers too busy to hit their targets.

A third train chugs along. Which train carries the secret cargo the French are to destroy? Needless to say the French pilots were not too happy with the game-master.

Train number 2 has been cut in two, only the engine and AA flatcar still in motion. Rumor has it that the Kasiser’s favorite pet, a monkey, is driving the train.

Train number 1 has nowhere to hide from the Breguet closing in.

The Breguet takes heavy AA fire from two machine guns on this particular train. The bomb drop lands on the car just after the AA.

A third train with no AA takes the middle route while the aircraft twist and turn in a deadly game above.

The engine of trains number 1 continues on as the cars left behind are strafed and bombed.

The Germans put up stiff resistance defending the last whole train.

More Breguets appear as the sun sets. Too late to finish off the third train.

Not knowing if they were successful, they had to give up the attack and return to base.
As it turned out the first train heading south carried the secret weapon prototype. It was destroyed and the war continued on as usual.

    That's a really interesting scenario.
The trains look awesome, and the track layout seems perfect.
Did you tape the tracks in place?

REP sent for a different take on the 'train game'.

P.S. Where did you get the trains?

I just ordered some 3D printed ground targets (trucks, tanks, artillery) from historicalboardgaming.com and would love to add some train pieces as well.

Excellent AAR and I like the train models.
So how many books are in your personal library?

    A fine scenario Pete.
Unfortunately I only have two model Locos so can't emulate your three train scenario, but it gives scope for variations on your idea.
    Well done sir.

Pete, trains are Shapeways. I ordered 2 different train sets and an extra engine. HERE, HERE and HERE.

I put some tacky glue on the bottom at the ends of the tracks. I store them on plastic 3 ring binder sheets. I've always been annoyed with moving targets but found the tacky glue solution works great.

The tracks are from the files but I modified them a bit. Fudged the switches and shrunk them to the scale of the trains.

    Superb game Peter!
Gives me ideas for my own teeny tiny train set!
