2022 Fall In – game 2 - Zeppelin!
Game 2 has a Zeppelin returning from it’s raid on Britain. Upper level turbulence forced it to fly low across the channel where it was spotted and reported. Both sides sent up scouts and the party was on.
This time we had 12 pilots, 8 intercepting SPAD VIIs vs 4 protective escort Albatros D.IIIs and an AI zeppelin.
Protecting the Zeppelin were (2) Aiden, (4) Erich, (6) Dieterich and (8) Peter
Trying to stop the zep from getting home were (1) Ally, (3) Kris, (5) Walt, (7) Dave C, (9) Steven, (10) Tom, (11) Dave K and (12) Marc
5 French SPADs from SPA 78 were joined by 3 from the RNAS. One French SPAD had rockets.
Dieterich interferes with a pair of SPADs, coming at them from below.
The beast inches forward, not liking what it sees in the fast approaching SPADs.
Hell Spawn eyes a SPAD as it whizzes by.
Wings, when everyone moves it is a combination of the games Jenga and Twister.
Hell Spawn lights up Dave’s RNAS scout close to the zeppelin.
Steven’s SPAD (10) trails smoke ager being hit by the zeppelin and Hell Spawn.
Still smoking, Steve (10) is frustrated with his gun jamming as he readied a run along the zeppelin.
Ally though gets in her clean shot.
The zeppelin inches along while shooting at every opportunity. Dave’s RNAS SPAD burns as a result of flying too close to the beast.
A number of SPADs gather on the port side of the zeppelin. After flying over the zeppelin, Ally gets in a shot Erich (4).
The action is hot and heavy on the starboard side of the zeppelin.
Two RNAS SPADs engaged, one in a better position than the other.
Fires on the zeppelin begin to accumulate as the SPADs keep the pressure on. (see the fire on the tail stabilizer)
The zeppelin engineers desperately try to put the fires out but have little success. One out of six fires are doused leaving five to ravage the zeppelin.
The fires are too much for the Zeppelin and it falls to the earth. The French and RNAS get their revenge for the zeppelin’s raid on Britain.
I was honored with being awarded a PELA (HMGS …The "PELA” is a GM Award primarily for traditional historical based miniatures gaming event,… The "Pour Encourager Les Autres” quote stems from an Admiral from the Age of Sail, who, after a defeat was executed "To encourage the others. )
I was told the game had the best attendance (12 of 12) of all the games on at that time. Hope they don’t execute me in the future to encourage others!
