Thread: November 2022 workbench

  1. #1

    Default November 2022 workbench

Though I would start out the November workbench.

First, I have my 94th Squadron Nieuport 28 repaints. Just a paint over and put new numbers.

    I did the following pilots:
    2 - Major Raoul Lufbery
    10 - Lt. Douglas Campbell
    11 - Lt. Reed M. Chambers
    14 - Lt. Alan F. Winslow

I used Miscmini decals for these.

    Next batch.

I bought one of Reduced Aircraft Factory's Albatros D.II Jasta 2 planes. Somehow I broke the prop off. So I repaired it with one of the Aerodrome Spinning Prop discs. While I was at it I decided to have fun.

I have some Aviation Wings Decals. So I used a few.

I put the Eye of Power on this one!

While I was at it, I decided I needed more Jasta 2 Pilots. Therefore, I repainted two more Reduced Aircraft Factory Albatros D.II

First, I did the Goering. Painted out the wing decals and added an Aviation Wings decal to the Fuselage.

Next, I modified the Lowenhardt. Just painted the tail white, the nose white, and I repainted the prop.

    Last bit of Albatros fun!

I decided that the Goering would make an interesting Jasta 11 plane as well. Repainted the Nose, Wheels, and tail red. New decals on the tail. Painted out the wing markings.

    Mick's Pics:

Did a repaint of the Ares Roderic Dallas’ SE5a to make Mick Mannock’s SE5a. Paint is Testor’s Olive Matte. Sealer is satin varnish by Winsor & Newton. The fuselage roundels are from Miscellaneous Miniatures. The letter A and stripes insignia are homemade. Still have to seal the decals but couldn't wait to post the pics.

Thank you. I printed whole body and also the chasis. This is prototype to test the durability of 3d printed body and to see how it drives, so I did not waste time with paint or surface finish. I am printig final version now and it will be fuly coloured like this:

OK Confession part two. I posted about this a long time ago, but for those yet to hear - When my son was 9 years old (he claims he was 7), dad, me, in perhaps an over enthusiastic moment, bought his son an Airfix kit - the Lancaster bomber. Son complained that he'd need a degree in engineering before he could assemble it (OK not quite in those words) and asked me, dad, to make it for him. Some years later we moved house, and I still hadn't completed it and much of the box contents had now disappeared. So dad made the rest of it disappear as well. But said I was sorry. About three or four years ago now, my son, now being in his mid forty's, came across another kit of the same and insisted I bought it and complete the job. The seller, at a bring and buy sale, took pity on him and said I could have it for a fiver. No getting out of it now.

Well guys, as I believe the walrus said, the time has come. Woop blooming eee, I have almost completed it, bar the underside decals. Its only taken 43 years (according to my son, John) and to boot, I even purchased an airbrush to try to make a decent job of the upper surfaces. But even there I was punished for my sin - I made the mistake of buying a cheap starter set, from you know where I suspect, and the thread of the minute little cone that protects the needle broke off inside the airbrush. Boom boom. So I've had to try and finish it by hand. That'll teach me won't it.

I guess I also have to confess that my childhoof enthusiasm for making these kits hasn't really stood the test of time, but I'm hoping this might kick start it back into action.

Cheers all - that's that one off my chest And that's my work done for November, John can now have it as part of his 50th birthday pressie

Finally, back to doing some painting with the planes I had sitting around. Those of you who know me also know I look for different time periods.
In 1922 there was a revolt in Paraguay (see what I mean about time period). Between the Govt and Rebels they had 14 planes. I have 11 of the 14. Here are the Govt planes.

Not WOG related but with a lull in OTT thought I would start on some scenery boards for LOTR combat hex figures I have.
Start of the Chamber of Balins tomb, Shelob and the Watcher in the water scenes. Been done before but I find it therapeutic.
