BEACHHEAD returns at the BIC Bournemouth on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February 2023.

Entoyment present their tabletop games show at the Bournemouth International Centre on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th February 2023. Various tournaments are also running on both the Saturday and Sunday as well as boardgame events.

I have received our formal invitation to put on a game.

We usually do the Saturday only but they'll be asking that we cover both days if we're putting a game on (might be negotiable?)
Hopefully there are enough bodies willing to present over the two days.

Officially only four wristbands (so far), I pleaded my case that we're effectively running two tables, so we'll wait and see.

Have most of the kit sorted -
Mats, caddys, decks, tokens, rulers; forum shirt & flying helmet - two Balloons; have 3-4 of each scout and a few tandems if required but enough to run the scenarios on a couple of tables. Not bringing early stuff or Italian front, though might bring that Sunday if requested.

Two done and dusted.. Home safe & sound, another year older and with belly full of ruby !
Many thanks to the chaps who all travelled considerable distance to join me for our contribution to Beachhead '23, namely Andy (Ajay), Tim (Flying Helmut), Mike (Mikeemagnus) & Tony (Tonyc206). A good second day with plenty of fun and banter, can't think of a better way to spend m'birthday

Major medals for all please, Air Vice Marshall (once we figure out how we can apply them !)

Great weekend Dave and everyone else. Many thanks for the discussions, anecdotes, bad dad jokes and general all round good company. It was a lot of fun.

Played a bomber scenario warm up, having chased Ajay's DH.4 around the board he dropped on target...


But didn't make it home !

The lower group are the +1's

Ajay continued to man the bomber and took on three opponents. He got through but I think he missed the target this time. He did not miss his pursuer, though !
Forgive me, I can't recall who that was, maybe Mike ?


His joy did not last long as one of the other hounds caught up with him and took him down. This might have been Jack, son of Justin(JuD)


Whilst engaged on the other half of the table the bomber scenario was reset with Mike as GM. This time Ajay had a Camel escort piloted by Tony (tonyc206) and Jack was joined by two other punters Mike & Dave assisted by his son William.

Tony doesn't get it all his own way as Mike gets on his tail


Dave had been shooting up the bomber but takes a beating from Ajay's gunner as it breaks right leaving him shooting at Tony


Dave over runs and cannot capitalise, Ajay goes for another bomb run having missed one drop, Mike reverses looking for a target


Having missed his target (again) Ajay heads for home as Dave & Mike hone in on him


Ajay slips through as Mike is distracted by Tony & Ajay gets a pop at Dave which sets him on fire


Ajay is well on his way as Tony evades mike & catches up with Dave


Tony jammed his guns and Mike takes advantage


Dave drawers a 4 for fire and his game is done. meanwhile Ajay flies off the board, claiming the kill !



We switched up the planes for a bit of dogfight fun - Camels v Razors
I flew Barker's Camel, Ajay in Brown's; Mike in the yellow tailed E.V, Tim in the striped.
Here as I exchange with Mike Tim catches me at close range


Mike and I briefly merge machines

Three more damage cards & feeling decidedly set upon !

After a near miss with Mike Ajay powers away.


Tim reverses and catches him from the rear


I don't have a pic of the result, it may have rhymed with Doom but honestly can't recall !

Next we had some punters - Sean and Sean - a father, son grudge match run by Mike & Ajay

I believe the win went to the old and treacherous The youngster claiming more hits given but he didn't get the decisive cards.

Day two started with a Survival of the Fittest dogfight setup and the Bounce the Recon scenario:

This was a three on two match up. Tommy lost the toss and was put in the centre of the table, Fritz rolled for each player and where he approached on the clock.
Tommy's then diced to see how fast they reacted - it didn't seem to help them much !
I came in at 11 in the Alb D.III with the white band; Tim in the Voss D.III at 9, Ajay with the red banded D.III at 7.
I managed to get a shot on Mike's N.17 #T from his blind side, as did Tim from the rear quarter; alongside was Tony in N.17 #2.


The N.17 were difficult to tell apart, so, helpfully, we marked Mike's with some fire ! Tim Jammed (old curse)


Rolling around behind Mike I came to Tony's N.17 and was lucky enough to do the same to him at close range


Passing behind Tony I got onto Mike again at long range, Ajay hit him from ahead and jammed his gun.


I manage to stay on Mike's tail..


I pour it on a close range but he keeps flying & takes a pop at Tim who has latched on to Tony.


I now trade with Tony as Mike breaks past me and takes on Ajay who has Immelled but is still jammed. Tim slides in and slams Tony at close range


I jammed but Tim's shot had the desired effect ! (12 with the +1's )


Mike gets into slippery bugger mode and the three of us scramble about to get on him, he sold us all a dummy with an Immel but Tim catches up with him for a long shot


He slips past Tim as I try to swing round intending to cut him off


Then Mike runs head on into Ajay for a close range pass..


It doesn't go well for him ! (last two cards in top line)


But we did OK A good game all told, even if I was firing blanks for most of it !


There was a commotion from the Sails of Glory table alongside us..

Mandy - Chris (Boney10)'s SWMBO - celebrates a victory over him with her 'happy dance', much to our amusement - Chris moves off shaking his head, muttering 'stupid game' under his breath


After a re-set with new players, we're off again.
Tim shares a laugh with Justin (JuD) another Flight Club pilot.


Sides are even, 3 on 3, N.17 (A guns) v Alb D.III. This time Jerry got bounced. Think I'm in the green N.17 coming in from 3 o'clock, right of me in the silver N.17 is Ben (grandson of Andy - (Sherlochnumber1)). Threading the needle is Justin in the D.III with the red band.

Ben & I make mirror Immels to bypass Tim & Justin once again.. Meanwhile Mike takes more love from Andy


Tim Immels behind Mike and lights him up - It's all too much for his N.17 as a second engine damage drops him

Following this move I'm trailing smoke, Tim has a jam & Justin's WIA.


I get a +1 from Andy which takes me down - leaving Ben the only pilot against three !

Ben try's to give the lads the run around but Justin latches on to him






Softening him up for Tim who catches Ben as he reverses




We thought he'd done pretty good under the circs but he didn't get his granddad!


In the next quiet spell we changed the planes up - Fokker D.VII's v SE5a's.
The chaps in attendance tried it on for size, Tim pulled out a Steffi..

Me and Mike were bounced, Ajay (red trim) came in at 9, Tim in Steffi at 6, Tony (yellow trim) at 11 (out of shot).
I wrong footed Ajay who expected me to turn 90 toward him. Probably the only right move I made as you will soon see !


No shots thus far


I missed a pic here as Ajay turned right again as I did a 90 right & shot him up.
It then went rather wrong for me as Tim nipped in on my six and proceeded to beat on me !





Stop punching me, you bully !

Meantime Mike sizes up his chances against Tony & Ajay


I momentarily break the +1 battering


Mike slides past Tony, neither gets a shot.


But it's too good to last as Tony sets him smoking and Ajay turns in pursuit


And Tim resumes the beating (I think he just changed hands) by setting me aflame


The hounds are chasing down Mike


Tim closes for the Kill but overcooks the approach as I jink toward him & make the overlap


I break hard right and open the gap from Tim; Tony breaks right but Ajay keeps after Mike


Sadly, Mike becomes meat in the sandwich


Tim has jammed but Mike is done for by Ajay's next +1 !


Moments later my fire reaches that critical level and I follow Mike down, victim of Tim's ignition !




As soon as we finished we set it up again as Ben & Andy had returned for another go. Highlights only I'm afraid:

That was it - show was over and we packed up ready for the off by 16.00.
Thanks for the efforts of all involved, I hope you all had a good time, I hear Ben did & that he enjoyed meeting his granddads friends (even if we did our best to kill him !)
