Default There I was just a driving down the road...

Returning from Melbourne after our daughter's wedding, we decided to take a couple of days to get home to Adelaide.

We were traveling from Ouyen to Murrayville and just on the outskirts of Murrayville I saw this:

I reckon there were 2 Matilda hulls and three, maybe four Grant's plus a huge host of idler wheels, drive sprockets, engine parts etc, etc. All in all I took about 40 photos. I'm guessing some local farmer purchased them at the conclusion of WW2 and used them as tractors until they 'died'.

Very interesting. I would have thought someone would have snapped them up as restoration projects by now.

I did alert the Australian Armour an Artillery Museum as they are undertaking a Grant restoration and they replied that they knew about them but they are not for sale.

    What a crying shame!

That is interesting. Around here we see antique combines and tractors, but not tanks! Awesome share!

Amazing. I'm wondering why they wouldn't sell them, and just leave them junked in the fields

Great find. Too bad they are just letting them rot away.

I just don't understand the "It's mine, so I'm going to let it go to waste" mentality. But great spot, Biggles.
