I have a large collection of Valejo paints that have not been used for about 10 years and have completely separated and may be recoverable with a LOT of shaking.
So with far too many bottles to shake by hand I went to find looking for an electricly powered solution to my problem and found this video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7jwhy7neaI&t=214s
What a great idea, with the only drawback being that the paint bottles keep jumping out. I would need them to stay in the shaker for much longer than a second or two, so I put on my thinking cap and set to work to solve the problem and build myself an upgraded version.
Here's what I came up with and the 'How To:'
Here are the materials that I used:
A secondhand B&D jigsaw (single speed - sourced via 'Free-Cycle')
A jisaw blade to fit the jigsaw (Sounds obvious, but there are a number of different blade fixing types)
An old Steradent tube - for the base fixing
One mini-clamp - puchased from Amazon in a pack of 4 for £8.99 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
A bottle of Valejo paint to test the fit
First thing was to check the fit of the paint bottle in the tube - Perfect fit!
Next was to align & mark the the jigsaw blade on the mini-clamp so that the blade can fit into the jigsaw and the clamp can open far enough to hold the bottle. This was then welded using my MIG welder (but you could bind them together with thin wire and cover in epoxy resin)...
...then I drilled an 8mm hole in the fixed clamp face to take the top of the paint bottle...
...and fixed the base of the steradent tube to the other (movable) clamp face...
...giving the finished bottle clamp..
... that holds the paint bottle perfectly...
...and now it doesn't jump out of the clamp when shaken for long periods!
Problem solved and I must say I'm quite chuffed with the result.
As always, I hope you find this interesting and maybe even useful
