Thread: A new record in Florence - 117 players at the same table

Default A new record in Florence - 117 players at the same table

Yesterday September 24, 2022 at 6.30 PM, a new record for the largest game ever was set. 117 people played at the same table during the 21st FirenzeGioca, a renowed game show in Florence this year at Fortezza da Basso, an ancient fortification in Florence.

    https://www.luccaindiretta.it/versil...ry/312037/amp/

The table was 41.80 meters long, a winding snake composed by 19 tables of 220 x 80 cm each.
Organization was masterfully managed by Alberto Warlock Sarcinelli, and several veterans contributed - including friends from this forum. Brexit threatened the event - Ares Games could bring only part of the promised planes since several dozens coming back from a huge event in Birmingham were stopped by customs and were not received in time. Many volunteers from several regions brought planes from their own collection and saved the event, being also the teachers of the rules to a mass of newbies joining the event. 129 people signed the register and played, even if some of them with little kids left before the end and some came later to replace them, so 117 is the official number of planes as well as people counted at the start and playing at the sane moment.
Newspapers, radio broadcasts and tv news announced the challenge and then gave the resumt.
Thanks, thanks, thanks a lot to everyone joining or even just promoting the event, making the record possible.
Previous record was 100, again at FirenzeGioca in September 2013. Previous one was 92 in California. Here some history:

Well done. Keith needs to add a bar to your medal Andrea. Any other Drome members playing?

As notified by Andrea in his FB, Danjel Ricci took part to the event.

And it seems that Roberto Di Meglio also played (on the picture, with his red Ares Games shirt).

Press manager of FirenzeGioca Anna Benedetto personally counted twice the people at the table checking the official score. She also helped With newspapers, radio broadcasts and tv news announcing the challenge and then gave the resumt.

Thanks, thanks, thanks a lot to everyone joining or even just promoting the event, making the record possible. Plane contributirs like Andrea Perfetti and all friends from the historical core of Associazione Ludica Apuana and Wargame Spezia, Laura Epifani (register checker and rookies recruiter), Roberto Rog Gigli, Carlo Diolaiti, Andrea Magno, Giorgia Pandolfo, Danjel Ricci and more, sorry if I am unable to tag everyone (help me my friends!). Recruits trainers like Riccardo Vadalā and Francesco Gabbrielli were extremely helpful. The staff of FirenzeGioca with its artistic director Mirella Vicini and Ares Games with Roberto Di Meglio have been exremely supportive making this all possible.

What was the outcome of that. Did you count up the number of Entente and Central Powers "kills" to determine the winner.

Roughly, raising hands, German-Austrian planes shot down were twice the Entente. But no exact score was taken.

If it wasn't for "Quelli di Aerodrome", as the veteran Italian members of the forum call themselves, all this would not have been possible. They spread the new, brought planes risking them in the hands of strangers, recruited rookies, trained them, assisted them during the game. To be more efficient, they stread all over the huge coiling table to better help beginners and solve doubts.

Warlock in flying suit has been the main organizer of the event. Andrea67 has been the main recruiter and one of the highest contributors of planes. In the photo I see also Cisco Cischetti and Arumas-o-thos, but great veterans of many huge games all over Italy (and even prague) who are not in the picture are Mad Charly, Magnoan, Wolfgiova. There could be more, since several veterans came even from distant regions, but I am not sure that they belong to The Aerodrome nor which their nickname is. If you know more, please add.

That must have taken a bit of organising

Entente won, but nobody was really caring. Having fun was the prevailing goal.

This was fun, thanks to everyone who contributed! I came fighting with shiny airplanes just to misjudge my position and end up outside of the play area. Shame on me!

Also next time I'll bring a megaphone to explain the rules to nearby players, my voice was gone by the evening!

Looks like you can apply for the World Record Medal Danjel if you don't mind it having the 100 bar on it.

Well this is dated 2013 if you see the notes. Maybe we could make a new 117 medal...

This would be nice, I'd gladly apply for that! It's been a few years since the "100" one after all!
EDIT: I see the "100" medal is generic for a world record breaking game, it actually makes sense. Requesting that for now!

You could approach Keith with this request Andrea. In the meantime I will award this one. Are there any more members you know who were at this event?
