    Default Mission combat Box

    Hellog,
Presentation of the next big game of the club.
    8 german pilotes against B-24
    Combat box scenario

B24 Liberators of the 834th Bomb Squadron (486th Bomb Group) of the 8th Air Force are on their way to bomb the airfield of Lille/Vendeville( Next to the city where our club is located) where the 6/JG26 "Schlageter" is stationed

    First game( morning)
You are faced with the B24 escort (P47 thunderbolt and P51 mustang)

For this first game half of the pilots present will be on the opposing side flying P51 Mustangs or P47 Thunderbolts.

    second game

A combat box of 8 B24s crosses the board. It is up to you to try to destroy them.
Each B24 that leaves the mat enters again from the opposite side. This is to simulate a larger number of planes.
The 8 Libies will be staggered over several altitudes, however it will be very dangerous to be in the middle of the fight box......

    Installation

Choice of planes, wingmen, leaders (D6)
Wingmen must stick as close as possible to the leader when he shoots, this gives a bonus, see scoring.

German fighters roll 1 D20: the points obtained are flak bonuses (I plan to land the bombers in the middle of flak explosions before the game)

Exit from the table (for fighters)

A fighter can leave the combat zone (table) and return:
By the same edge: spend 1 turn
By the opposite edge: spend 2 turns
By an adjacent edge: spend 2 turns

    Firing
    For FW190s

Frontal attack: draw an extra damage counter (your choice) and choose the most favourable.
Note: the fighters attacked from the front in order to add the speed of the fighter and the target, making it more difficult for the bombers to defend themselves.

Attack in the sun: no defensive fire.

Shooting at a B24 at close range: roll a D20 on 18+ the plane explodes (bomb bay)

If the wingman is within one ruler when a leader fires, the leader draws an additional damage counter (your choice) and chooses the most favourable.

[Herausabschuss (force a plane out of the formation)
    Bomber in Trouble
A B24 that has taken two engine damage or reached 2/3 of its hit points leaves the formation (the mat) and moves to another table, the pilots can follow it to finish it off (or not).
Once the liberator is down, the pilots must wait 3 turns before they can return to the formation.
However, forcing a bomber off the table is worth 5pts

    Points
During the games, you never lose a fighter/figure (it stays in place when you have reached the maximum of life points).

But when you have lost the equivalent of 1 fighter, you must start from a table edge and not stay on your last spot. (For the first game you cannot position yourself advantageously to the enemy fighters)

Your aircraft damage points will be added up as the game progresses and subtracted from your B-24 victory points.

The team with the most points in total will be declared the winner: victory points - damage points.

The loss of a plane causes a 5 pts malus (in addition to the hit points)

Destruction of a B24 (last hit point) gives a bonus of 10 pts

    A herausabschuss gives a 5 point bonus

Fire damage points will be credited to the pilot who inflicted the special damage

The game will be played in September or early October

Hello Fox. Can't find the page where you showed off the painting of the models. Are the B.24s 1/200 scale?

Fox plays WGS at 1/144 scale.

That's it ( trad of the AAR from our site)
    https://lesnerviens.1fr1.net/t1209-combat-box-wwii#9298
I had to take the place of a pilote who was missing so it slowed down the game a bit.

Victory of the team Anthony /Pascal but only 2 points before Dominique and JC.
Pierre and Philippe are far behind but, in their defence, during the dogfight they attacked each other (one of the team drivers was passing on the US side) and therefore lost many points.
It's a mistake from my part and from the scenario, I should have counted only the victories and not the losses, so their "rotte" took a blow. It's possible to count all the points only if the number of "rotte" is identical for each side.
I have corrected the points accordingly but it doesn't change anything for the result in "rotte".

    Leader/Ailier
    Anthony/Pascal :151pts

    Dominique/JC:149 pts

    Philippe/Pierre:21 pts +54 (dogfight losses) + 5 pts ( Herausschuss)=80pts
As you can see it was a 2 point game for the first two "rottes"

Surprise: The winners get these beautiful 1/48th scale miniatures (I couldn't afford my own miniatures so I gave mine to the leader of the second team )
    Leader

    Winger

Individual: (points for the award of the Iron Cross, 20 are required for the award of the Knight's Cross)

    Dominique:84pts
(1 win on hunter + 1 win on B24, 4 points: award of the iron cross 1st class)

    Pascal:80 pts
(1 win on fighter + 2 wins on B24 + 1 Herausschuss, 9 points: award of the Iron Cross 1st class)

    Anthony:71 pts
(1 win on B24, 3 pts: award of the Iron Cross 1st class)

    Philippe:48 pts +18+5=69pts
(1 win on fighter + 1 win on B24 + 1 Herausschuss, 6 pts: award of the Iron Cross 1st class)

    JC]: 65 pts
( 1 win on B24, 3 pts: award of the Iron Cross 1st class)

    Pierre: -19 pts +36=17pts
(1 win on fighter, 1 pts: award of the Iron Cross)

    Note:
More victories does not necessarily mean more points.
Example: blowing up an intact B24 gives you 47 pts + 10 bonus, completing a B24 with only 3 points left gives you 13 pts (3 +10 bonus)

After correction, Philippe is normally ahead of JC for individual points but this does not change the final result per "rote".

There were a total of 6 B24 and 2 Mustangs on the American side for the loss of 3 FW190.

    There were two Herausschuss:
1st: The rota formed by Phillippe and Pierre decided to follow the B24 with two on the other table: I think this is what lowered their point total, the kill took time during which the other pilots gained points on the other table
The second Herausschuss: myself, on the orders of my leader (Anthony), following a B24 alone while my leader continued his fight on the other table

    There were 3 explosions:
Dominique shot down an intact B24 in one go (explosion counter)
Anthony, ditto but on a damaged B24
JC with a masterful shot on the bomb bay (D20 test)

The scenario works well, it is fluid, the half speed of the bombers allows the fighters to move faster and to stay in contact with the same bomber for a while.
There were no problems with the B24s coming off the carpet and returning to the other side.
The Herausschuss creates a gap in the formation which the FW190s can take advantage of.
Leaving the formation to attack the lone bomber may (or may not) give you advantages, but you must be lucky enough to shoot it down quickly enough. Indeed, the bomber has already reached at least 2/3 of his hit points, so the victory may not be enough, but it's a tactical choice with interesting risks. The mistake of Phil and Pierre may be to go with two FW190.
Allowing the hunters to take one altitude with one card also makes the game more fluid and fast.
The only downside is that the dogfight calculation mode should be changed if necessary (lack of players).
If there is the same number of "rotte" on each side during the dogfight, no worries, if not, count only the points of victories during an odd number (3 pilots versus 3 pilots for example)

    [/b]

    Le dogfight:
Pierre ,JC and US side , Phil,Anthony et Dominique German side
Pierre is shot twice (the pangs of the rookies..) Philippe once.

    Combat Box

    La flak

Two "rotte" attack from the front and one with the sun at their back

one of the bombers had to leave the formation, the FW190 (Pierre and Philippe) take advantage of this

    Un B24 goes down

second Herausschuss ,a B24 who left the course, I'm on his ass.

"Pips" Priller ( Dominique) his mate ( JC) in action

Anthony seul ( je suis sur l'autre tapis)

    JC take fire

Shot on target in the bomb bay for JC
